More wires than legs on a millipede !

If the switched live has not been sleeved you may have thought it was a neutral and connected it as such. Every time you swich the light on you will be shorting live to neutral and blowing the fuse. Regards

    Outside light

It would have been wrong for someone to put a junction box in the wall but that doesnt mean it hasnt been done :) As for connecting at the ceiling rose, they dont usually have enough spare terminals to feed an extra light, and I think its considered a no no to put two wires in one terminal at...

    Insulation Resistance testing

Always a good idea to test at 250 first, just to show up any loads. If your tester doesnt have a 250V setting then do a continuity test between conductors to confirm there are no loads present. Regards

2.5mm² for a lighting circuit? (And why not in a ring??)

Surely junction boxes would be better than ceiling roses :? A ceiling rose has cable entries from the rear so do you plan to drill holes in the beams? Correct me if im wrong but I thought it was not allowed

    Lighting circuits wired in rings?

In theory if you had 4 lamps of equal wattage wired in a ring, there will be no current flow in the cable between the second and third lamp. So no real point in the cable being there unless the MCB for the circuit is too large for a radial. I was told that rings were designed as a cheap...

Advice for new ring main please...

Are you expecting the pro to sign an installation certificate for work that you have done? I would be suprised to see that! You can get an installation report done which is something completely different, and may even assess the installation as unsatisfactory at the end of it.

    Wrapping tape round choc blocks

Using insulating tape is classed as site applied insulation, therefor according to guidance note 3 it requires a 1500V flash test (or thereabouts) :D

    Crimps and crimping

    1) Rachet type with adjustable compression (look for a star shaped adjuster on the tool handle) 2) One that crimps the same in both directions unlike some that need the wire to enter from the left side only. Ones that crimp in both directions are easier in arkward spaces regards
