One Electrician Does The Work - Another To Part P It?

The periodic report has the same schedule of test results / inspections as an electrical installation certificate. The only difference is you are allowed to fail the results of tests & inspections wheres you cant on an EIC. Plus there is a clause on the periodic report that says concealed cable...

Sorry, newbie with yet another mains downlighter question

Junction boxes under floorboards are not really desirable these days. They need to be accessible for inspection which is impossible if laminated flooring or bathroom tiles get fitted.

A simple way to calculate cable runs + breaker rating?

I hear there will be 2 exams, one for those without 16th edition, and another version for those with. Why be worried about the pass mark? I believe its generous, and with practice you should do well as you get the choice of 4 answers, and are allowed to look it up. Heres a useful link if it...

    THRU CRIMPS

For some reason the mention of heatshrink got me thinking the extension was outside a box. The capslock issue led me astray :D

    THRU CRIMPS

I think there is a regulation about having unsheathed cables outside of conduit or enclosures, so pehaps heatshrink is a good idea. Another option is self-amalgamating tape (if thats how you spell it)

    MCB too small for shower

You should base your calculations on 230V, but in reality the supply is 240V because nothing has changed since harmonisation exept labels.

    March 2391 Exam

I sat the Feb exam and it was 8 weeks before my certificate arrived. Later I read the C&G report for the exam and it said only 32 percent of the country passed  Good luck to those waiting for results, and I know what your going through

    what tools do I need?

Old school or not, there are houses in existance with wiring dating back to the war. If a double socket is only part way round a ring, and has another double socket spurred, then most of the current will take the short route and overload that length of cable. Surely the idea of limiting...

    what tools do I need?

Some houses only have 1 ring circuit, with the upstairs sockets as spurs from the sockets below. If your sockets are spurs they will have to remain as singles unless you add a fuse.

    Fitting Electric Sockets in shed

What with? Polystyrene and PVC cable are a terrible mix so conduit or trunking is the only option if thats what you are using. Is the house TN-C-S? There is a debatable issue about exporting the earth from this type of arrangement. I think you need to get a professional in to look at it...

What's this little cable for??? (with pics)

Is the wire actually any use Coljack? I have this type of RCD at my house and tested with and without the wire connected. The trip times were identical. As you say there may be voltage on the earth and is monitored by this type of RCD, but if the leakage current did not originate from the...

What's this little cable for??? (with pics)

N-E fault will trip the RCD just the same as a P-E fault. As stated the voltage on exposed conductive parts must not rise above 50V or 25V in special locations. The RCD has no set voltage to which it trips, only an inbalance in current between P-N. Impedance is what determines touch voltages...

    what will i need

quite right Softus, But in a domestic enviroment you can rule out ambient correction as I doubt anyone can handle a house greater than 30 degrees. I would have thought its common sense to run a shower cable seperately and not sandwich it between sheets of thermal insulation, and it sounds like...

What's this little cable for??? (with pics)

The voltage depends on the impedance of the circuit V=IR Voltage=30mA X Zs (I think thats right)
