    Dry verge recommendations please!

Thanks for that. That's an interesting suggestion. What do you mean by properly mixed? Do you just mean making sure you get a good strong mix, and make sure all of the old stuff is well raked out? Unfortunately, as much as I'd love to employ someone to do it for me, I need to do this myself...

British gas RC plus wireless thermostat - instructions??

Hi. I've just moved in to a house with a British gas rc plus wireless thermostat, but there are no instructions! I've seen another post that suggests ours the same as a Drayton digistat 2 unit, but it appears to have reduced functionality, so the manual is not valid... Does anyone have a copy of...

    Bosch microwave - economically repairable??

I have a Bosch HMT75M551B built in microwave which has recently become noisy, and appears to overheat. It's a few years old, but appears to still be the current model. Just wondering whether anyone can advise whether it's likely to be economically repairable? Or whether it's dead? Thank you.

    Dry verge recommendations please!

I've just moved house, and want to repair the roof verging. I'm considering upvc dry verging, but haven't used it before. Can anyone explain how I would retrofit it? I don't think the roof battens extend far enough to fit into them. How does it detail with the guttering at the eaves? Photo...

Recommend a microwave for a shallow wall unit

My father had a microwave in a 600mm wide wall unit, but because it's a wall unit, it's only about 320mm deep. Can anyone recommend a shallow microwave that might suit?? He's struggling to find one wide enough. Thank you.

Can anyone recommend any electric plinth heaters? Myson Kickspace?

Hi I'm looking to install a couple of electric-only plinth heaters in my kitchen, and would be very grateful of any recommendations. There appears to be a massive price range from about £50 to £200 for a unit, and I wondered what you get for your money? Thank you

what pipe for above ground potable water

I've googled preinsulated pipe and it's pretty expensive stuff! Is there a pragmatic solution that's cheaper? The work is by volunteers for a local organisation, so there's no budget for top end stuff. Is there something that I could wrap HDPE pipe in? Or would black HDPE be better...

what pipe for above ground potable water

I need to run a long length of potable water pipe, half of which is above ground and half will be buried. What is the problem with blue mdpe? What should I be using? Thank you

replace cooker hood 20w halogen g4 bulbs with led

Hi. This is a bit of an experiment, but I've swapped a the 12v halogen g4 capsules on my cooker hood for some led capsules. I thought they'd be a straight swap, but apparently not . The LEDs are 12v ac, and just flicker on and off about every second. I was interested to understand what is...

    gx53 led downlights a pain - alternatives?

Thanks chaps. I'm going to try and get hold of a thorn baseled junior to have a look at, as that seems to be almost a direct replacement for what I have in terms of diameter and lumen. the concept of an "all in one" is a bit alien to me as an amateur, but does make sense. Thank you all.[/u]

    gx53 led downlights a pain - alternatives?

Thanks for the replies. The fittings are megaman so should be sound. The bulbs are lite-tech, so I'm not familiar with them. In terms of the environment, it's pretty tame. Not hot or cold. Not damp or humid. I'm at a loss really. Another suggestion has been to use a backing plate and go to a...

    gx53 led downlights a pain - alternatives?

Hi. I have some gx53 recessed downlights in my kitchen (megaman fittings) but I find them very frustrating in that the LED bulbs are only lasting about 9 months, and they're quite expensive to replace. Before I buy any more bulbs, does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative? Does...

ST6300a timer failed?? Or is it the 3way valve??

I have taken the whole motor head off and the spindle will turn by hand, but not particularly easily. The valve is a Honeywell v4079. It appears like the spring effort is not enough to pull the valve back towards the hw only position.

ST6300a timer failed?? Or is it the 3way valve??

At the risk of looking stupid I have repeated the voltage measurements to earth (rather than to neutral). CH only gives 240 on white, orange and grey. Ch and HW gives 240 on white and orange, and 80 on grey. HW only gives 240 on orange and zero on white and grey. When I switched the ch...

ST6300a timer failed?? Or is it the 3way valve??

To test the movement I set the programmer to CH only and watched the valve move across. I then set it to hw only and the valve very slowly crept back or stopped, and required assistance with a screwdriver pressing on the spring return lever to reach its full travel. You are correct that the...

ST6300a timer failed?? Or is it the 3way valve??

A bit more investigation. The valve will move from HW port b to CH port as required. It is very reluctant to move the other way from CH back to mid or HW. With HW and CH both calling, I get 240v on both white and orange until the valve reaches mid travel at which point the voltage drops to...
