Yep, pipework in and out hot, but the out is not rapidly hot. It's difficult to tell as there's not much room between the pump and the three way valve. after the three way valve there's definately not much flow. i've followed tom's top tips on youtube, and there didn't seem to be much wrong...

sorry for the ambiguous post! simon, you've got it right. the timer appears to work, i.e. it responds to the on/off timer that I set, and the little LED lights up, but when the timer's off, the thermostat can bring the boiler on... By the sounds of it Simon, I'd better fit a new timer...
