    leveling doormat recess at hallway

Thanks for the reply - it's nice to know how people got the job done. After all,you may have come up with a new idea that we can all learn from :D

    Tyre Pressure Master Table

My local Jet garage and Morrisons petrol station both have a reasonably comprehensive list next to the air machine. (Not very pocket-sized,though :D )

    NCB

If you stay with the same insurance company,it will be deducted automatically in your quote;if you shop around, you will need to declare how much you have. 1 year is normally 30% off,2 years 40% etc. up to whatever maximum they do (65 or 70%)

Supermarket petrol compared to main dealer petrol

All the petrol companies trade between each other,so regardless of the name on the pump,it usually comes from the nearest refinery. So Scotland is all supplied by BP Grangemouth NorthEast England from Jarrow Humberside from Conoco Immingham NorthWest England from Shell Stanlow SouthEast...

    Marine ply

Is your name also the village where you live ? If so,try Darlington Timber Supplies,Albert Hill (off Haughton Road) for whatever material you choose.

    Parkin ticket

Not displaying a tax disc (Vehicle Excise Licence) and Not having a tax disc (using an unlicensed vehicle on the road) are two seperate offences - is this what they are ? Normally, the fine for no tax was a fine and the back tax (otherwise £44 is a strange amount - not a fixed penalty...

    new ring main in attick

Yes - a ring has a cable going out from the CU,to a socket, then to the next one,and the next etc. then back to the CU. The main advantage of a ring is it can carry current in both directions, giving a higher carrying capacity for the size of cable If you are only planning on a couple of...

    brakes!

Wheel brg = wheel bearing. Squeaking is normally caused by a build up of brake dust, guess you already checked this. If one back wheel is turning with the handbrake on,normally the cable or mechanism is siezed (which is why the footbrake stops it) Wheel bearings can be checked by jacking...

    Weather - or not.

Yes,quite agree - being on NTL,there is a weather link on the homepage. Often look at the 5-day forecast, which seems to bear no resemblance to the weather (e.g. on Monday,Thursday will be showery and 18C;on Tuesday,Thursday will be sunny and 21C;on Wednesday...you get the idea :? )

    leveling doormat recess at hallway

18mm wbp ply ? Assume you are using underlay before laying the laminate - is this thick enough to absorb the 2mm? If not,Breezers angle grinder suggestion is probably quickest :D

    Uneven joists

And "shimming" is the use of shims - thin bits of appropriate material to fill gaps or (in this case) level something out. i.e. - find the highest joist, use that to measure your level, and use shims to build the low points in your other joists up to this level.

    I got followed!

Mate of mine got stopped speeding in his wagon on the A19 some years ago - by a sarky copper "Having a bit of trouble finding the end of the runway today, are we sir ?" :D

    I got followed!

Could have been A) Clocking your speed B) Stalling for time while doing PNC vehicle check And there is a minimum distance at which an accident involving a car being followed/pursued by a police car becomes a PolAcc (Police Accident) and has to be investigated by an Inspector - not...

    Damaged/Missing Roof Tiles

    1) Shouldn't be difficult with the number of reclamation yards about, but may be expensive (good old ones cost more than good new ones :( ) 2)4:1 3)Soft sand, lime not necessary

    Hull !!

Hulls biggest problem is Brandsholme - the largest council estate in Europe. Although personally,I would much rather live in Hull than Immingham (If you have ever been to Immingham,I'm sure you will agree..)

    New Here! Garage roof problem.

No,roofing felt won't work - it is designed to go on flat surfaces really. You can get several "paint-on" repair products which may help. Just a thought, but can see you have the joint between the roof and the wall filled with The Devils Expanding Foam - if this is outside as well,it breaks...

    Cutting melamine covered chipboard

You can get good results (very little chipping of the laminate) with something like the Stanley JetCut-type of saw - recently cut a worktop from the top with one of these, and no visible break-out.

    repairing damage to brickwork

This is what happens when you use an SDS drill - the hammer action is sometimes too powerful, and hammers its way through the last bit, rather than drilling (yes,I did the same thing when drilling a hole for the SWA cable for my workshop  )
