    changing a headlight... simple

I remember changing spark plugs on the old VW beetles - to get at one of them, you had to jack the car up and remove the wheel to get at the access cover

Do you love your job ?

I work for a large transport company - after ten years, I still enjoy the feeling of satisfaction I get after a mad thirty minutes swapping everything about to "squeeze in" that last-minute important job :D

    Bus ..Credit where due.

I remember the 3-mile limit being introduced - about 1977,i think (I was in second year at school) Lived in a village about 3 miles from the nearest secondary school - we had to pay to go to school, one of my schoolmates four doors up the road didn't  And as for child allowance - it...

    Bamboo plant killing

Not sure how it applies to roots, but legally you can trim/prune branches from a neighbours garden back as far as the property dividing line, but you have to offer the cuttings back to them :?

Just announced on sky M Jackson

I believe he was guilty I have yet to be convinced that he knew that anything he did was wrong. Puts me in the Scottish law "not proven" category,I think :?

    new driveway

Depending on how steep the slope is,how about concrete coarsely-tamped ? My father had his drive replaced a couple of years ago,and had it tamped so as to deliberately leave a rippled surface, rather than have it too smooth (my mother falls over easily - normally without drink  )

    Help locating Materials

Must be a hefty cabinet - 5 cm thick! (125 mm) Something like Furniture Panel (chipboard covered in beech-effect melamine/laminate) sounds like what you are describing, but that is normally 15 or 18 mm thickness. If you seriously want something of that size,go and talk to your local Timber...

    Speeding ticket!

As I seem to recall (dimly),if streetlights are no more than 200 yards apart and of a set minimum height (7 metres ?) then a built-up area is automatically a 30mph zone, unless stated otherwise. And those streetlights look high enough, even though I can't remember the exact height.

servis, spin with difficulty & there is no carbon brushe

Carbon brushes are inside the motor,on the revolving bit of the motor, normally at the opposite end to the drive. So not necessarily obvious, depending on how many pieces you made it into  Could also be the belt slipping ?

Consequences of running a car with no oil?

"Small patch" ? Don't forget that it only takes a few drops of liquid to make that,so it might not be as bad as it sounds (try pouring a pint of water on the drive and see how much area it can cover  )

Have no idea about a Punto,but.. Door interior trim panels are normally fastened on by :- 1)the door pull/handle 2)the window winder handle/surround 3)lots of irritating plastic clips that are easiest removed with a wide wallpaper scraper stuck between the panel and the door, run it along...

    spin cycle bearing like noise

Belt slipping will cause the drum to slow down. Is there a lot of vibration as well ? e.g. the drum bearing being worn may cause the inner drum (the moving bit) to touch the outer drum (the stationary outer bit) When spinning, the pump is normally going as well - does the noise occur at any...

    Effect of acid

Will depend mainly if the acid affects the resin that bonds MDF. Most resins are more susceptible to alkali products (caustic) than acid, but as said, need to know what type/strength of acid.

What's the difference between a spur and extended ring main?

Must agree with BAS - have always believed that centrifugal force is the commonly-accepted term for lack of centripetal force

Not DIY disaster related as such, but hilarious none the less

Remember our french teacher playing it years ago (when I was at school, obviously  ) as part of a Gerard Hoffnung tape that had good examples of bad translation e.g. - in a hotel brochure in Hungary "For your convenience, there is a French widow located in every room" :D

    Planning / Building Regs ?

Ring your local council Building Control and ask - you don't have to give your name ("I have a friend who...") I'm sure there is a limit after which they will not bother about retrospective planning permission (which I think is 5 years,in which case you are ok - but I'm not certain,so best to...

    Hanging heavy mirror

My ex-wife has a similar mirror (wooden frame, rather heavy) and I used four 38mm mirror brackets (two top,two bottom - all about 100 mm in from corners) and drilled/plugged wall, fastened with 8 x 2" screws - solid as anything!! Only problem was that it took four of us to hold it level and...
