Free new boiler or stick with reliable 1980's one?

@Landycat so what did you do in the end? I believe the reason why they offer free boilers to those that qualify is because the old ones are inefficient. They don't just get a free boiler if they already have an efficient boiler. And, hands up all those who would refuse a free-one (whatever...

Replacing Back Boiler, What Is The Most Reliable Brand?

Most reliable boiler today - free boiler -Open vented system

So the general view seems to be that free boilers are bad overall. Tend to be low quality boilers, usually badly installed, etc. Would be interesting to here from anyone who has actually had a free boiler installed in their house. Any how, to open the discussion a bit wider, and forgetting the...

Most reliable boiler today - free boiler -Open vented system

PS - forgot to say, he would be willing to contribute to upgrade the boiler and system in order to improve the current setup. Are there any boiler makes he should avoid due to poor reliability?

Most reliable boiler today - free boiler -Open vented system

Hello My father is qualifies for a free boiler. He wants to keep the system as it is; he doesn't want to get rid of the hot water tank. Which is the most reliable boiler on the market today? Can the new boiler be located in the garage? Can he keep his old boiler connected to the system as a...

    Fitting Spirotech MagnaBooster MB3 DIY

This is the design - perhaps you would be good enough to point out any faults or your constructive thoughts. I have some compression fit elbows (22mm) and they will be fitted at the corners marked 1,2, 6,7 & 4 The return pipe would be cut at 1 & 4, hopefully i can get a pipe slice in there. The...

    Fitting Spirotech MagnaBooster MB3 DIY

Yes, was wondering that myself. I guess they must had some reason when they designed the system. The water flows from the Red to the Green, don't know if that makes a difference. Automatic Air Release valves - are they reliable or do they start to leak after a while?

Couldn't see any on ebay, manual or automatic. Perhaps you can recommend one, or post a link. Not sure how the automatic air release valves work. When they release the air, I guess water comes out as well? Where would be the best place to incorporate one of these valves in my proposed layout...

    Fitting Spirotech MagnaBooster MB3 DIY

It's a very good point about the airlock at the high point. But would the air be sufficient to stop the system working. Air can be compressed, water can't. And when the water is flowing, would the air not just be forced around the system to some other point in the system. Due to the very...

    Fitting Spirotech MagnaBooster MB3 DIY

Was trying to avoid the soldering and just use compression fittings. The U-bend is useful, does it come in a compression fit version as well? Yes it will need a few pipe clips to support it, and the Magnabooster is quite heavy. Not sure if I can get a pipe bender and bend the pipe roughly in...

    Fitting Spirotech MagnaBooster MB3 DIY

Update:- I've removed the floor boards and created a bit more space. But it is extremely tight there. I have some compression fit elbows (22mm) and am thinking of fitting them at the corners marked 1,2,3 & 4 The return pipe would be cut at 1 & 4, hopefully i can get a pipe slice in there. The...

Sawing thru copper pipes with a wire saw?

It looks like a good piece of kit. But I suspect the limited access that the original poster was referring to would mean that this can't be used.

    Fitting Spirotech MagnaBooster MB3 DIY

Due to the limited space, it it possible to use a flexible (instead of a rigid 22mm copper pipe) in the return pipe near where the Magnabooster will fit. See photo FlexiblePipe of the sort of thing I had in mind.
