MK Logic Plus Rapid Fix Sockets (built in "Wagos")

Well I just bought some rapid fix sockets and my conclusion is that for small fine-stranded conductors (I tried some 0.75mm mains flex and some 0.4mm test lead wire which I had handy) the wago style terminals are far far better than the massive screw terminals on regular sockets.

    Threshold for 3-phase supply

In rural areas it's not uncommon to see 11kV overhead lines with only two wires, so they can't feed a 3-phase transformer. Whether the transformer outputs are split-phase or single ended I don't know, I suspect it varies with the power capacity.

    Rewire.

I did some searching and it seems that omicron advertise their "compano 100" for MCB testing, but it only has an output current of 110A, so seems only suitable for B20 and smaller MCBs.

    Threshold for 3-phase supply

In general, a 3 phase cable will be cheaper than a single phase cable of the same power capacity Also domestic/small commercial intake and metering and distribution gear tends to be rated at a max of 125A, and often less. If you need more than that you are getting into the world of CT metering...

    Rewire.

If the values and calculators I've found online are correct then it looks like a 2.5 CPC would be good for an 80A BS88 but not a 100A BS88.

    Understanding fused spur

I feel the need to start from the beginning here. You should not design installations you expect to be overloaded. However, unanticipated usage of the installation, simple bad luck with timing, or faulty equipment can lead to overloading. The possibility of overloading cannot be completely...

I'm confused about junction box rules

There are certainly cases where one can see that an item exists, either with the MK1 eyeball or with the help of tools like mirrors or endoscope cameras but where to access it for inspection or maintenance would require destructive actions.

Ceiling Rose - Is this Ok?

The ones I've seen like that had their own base, rather than a conventional battern holder.

Ceiling Rose - Is this Ok?

Stuff in bathroom zones 1 and 2 needs to be at least IPx4 rated. The bathroom ceiling is usually outside the zones (the zones end 2.25m from the floor) but I'd expect in most cases a pendant would hang down into them. Afaict battern holders with the traditional choice for bathrooms. Even...

Assumed current demand of lighting outlet?

My thoughts on this. 1. The "random example" you found seems to be substantially more efficient than the house-brand bulbs I've looked at. 2. Not all lights were incandescent even in the pre-LED era. It was common to see flourescent battens in kitchens etc and the LED counterparts to those are...

    How to find electricals...

If the property has a timber ground floors then ground floor socket wiring is usually run under the floor and up to the sockets, but if the ground floor is concrete then wiring for the ground floor sockets is often run under the upstairs floor and down to the sockets. I agree with others who...

    'Recessed' back box?

Two potential concerns spring to mind. 1. Electrical conductivity. An electrical enclosure should ideally be made out of either a good conductor and connected to earth or made out of a good insulator. A material that is neither a good conductor or a good insulator poses a risk in that it may...

Double socket failed (one side only)

Hmm, I'd expect most manufacturers to use much the same internals, regardless of whether they were making a white plastic product or a fancy metal one.

How do I get this blighter back in?

The cables we use for wiring up our houses in the UK can be quite stiff and springy. There is a knack to wiring up a socket, from experiance struggling to wire up sockets for ages, before watching the pros do it and figuring out the knack, the following are the usual things that make it a...

Earth funnies and phantom voltages on lighting circuit

Class 0 refers to equipment that is not "single fault safe", that is a single reasonably foreseeable fault could render the enclosure live in a way that will not be disconnected by protective devices, I'm pretty sure class 0 equipment is not supposed to be sold in the UK/EU. Class 1 achieves...

Earth funnies and phantom voltages on lighting circuit

Earthing provides a path for fault currents, tripping a breaker in the event of a fault, that is better than the fault causing the case to become and remain live. However, there is still a brief window between when the fault makes the case live and when the protective device trips. Furthermore...

Earth funnies and phantom voltages on lighting circuit

In principle they can. In practice, actually installing class 2 metal lights to existing UK lighting circuits while maintaining their class 2 status is problematic. Often resulting in those lights being installed in ways that effectively render them "class 0".
