    Silly things

IIRC a three pin 60309 connector should have two of the pins marked L and ⏚. The third pin should be unlabelled as it may be either a neutral connection or a second live connection. The designers of the standard *could* have chosen to have different connectors for P+N+E supplies and 2P+E...

    2 x 2G backbox question

The BG catalogue clearly gives the part number for the box to go with their double row euro module plate HGS07/C2 Scholmore do an 8 module Euro plate, but it's 8 modules in a single row rather than two rows of four nodules

    Silly things

Afaict a three pin red would be a perfectly legitimate way to connect a 400V single phase load, and a 4 pin red would be a perfectly legitimate way to connect a three phase load that did not need a neutral.

Replacing a sealed plug for an EV-charging certified cable reel?

I would consider a claim of "suitable for EV charging" without any reference to a particular standard as meaningless BS. If I had to use an extension lead for EV charging I would make one up in the required length with 2.5mm flex and permaplug plugs and sockets. I would *not* use a reel.

Not tripping circuit breaker but sockets have no power

Personally I'd start by investigating the neutral bar in the CU. Volt stick lights up but no usable power screams lost neutral. And, assuming RCBOs aren't in use (they don't appear to be from the picture) the connection from the two ends of the ring to the CU neutral bar is the one place that...

OK to have insulated inner cores within plastic trunking?

AIUI The big difference is that IP4X requires a solid object of 1mm or greater size to be prevented from entering the enclosure at all. Whereas IPxxD allows the "access probe" to enter the enclosure as long as it doesn't come in contact with hazardous parts. The access probe is only 100mm long...

OK to have insulated inner cores within plastic trunking?

My understanding is that you *can* have exposed single cores in trunking, but if you do then you need to install that trunking a lot more carefully than if you are putting sheathed cables in there. BS7671 requires a "tool or deliberate action" to open trunking containing singles. I don't think...

    Silly things

The intended use of such connectors is for three phase supplies that have ~230V between phases. If it was wired to a 230V/400V supply then I guess whoever installed it misunderstood what the voltage rating on a commando socket represents. I've seen a 4 pin blue commando in a University lab...

    Scolmore Click 3amp isolator switch

BTW the "fused fan isolator" is just switch module and a fuse module on a 3 module plate. So if you want to put the fuse with the switch you can still keep most of the components you have. https://www.toolstation.com/click-mode-grid-front-plate/p56280...

    Installing Japanese toilet seat

Prior to modern sanitation, disease outbreaks and parasites through fecal contamination of drinking water supplies were a huge problem.

Power to outbuilding, yet another thread.

Seems like reality hit him and faced with a choice between paying for his electricity use, or not having an electricity supply he chose the latter.

Where to buy small length cable?

So about £90 inc tax, seems a bit more expensive than the price here, but IIRC your cable is a different spec to ours with a full-size insulated earth rather than a reduced sized bare earth. The OP's local DIY store seems a very good price for cut cable.

    Devices to meter kWh

Lets forget the grid a minute and think about a traditional car (with an internal combustion engine). Lets say we have measuring devices that measure the battery voltage, and the current flowing from/to of the battery. We get into the car, turn on some accessories and engage the starter. This...

    Devices to meter kWh

You can't do it with a CT alone. But you *can* do it with a CT in combination with a voltage sensor. You multiply the instantaneous voltage by the instantaneous current and integrate. Most commonly the same connection that is used to power the metering device is also used to provide the voltage...

What sort of earthing do I have?

Again, as I and Ragner have been trying to explain, modern editions of BS7671 are not written from scratch for the UK. they are based on an IEC standard modified to reflect UK practices and thinking. Even in the UK, lighting circuits with no CPCs are not unheard of, and I'm pretty sure there are...

What sort of earthing do I have?

With a plastic cased CU and no surge protection, I would agree, with a metal-cased CU and/or surge protectors I'd consider it merely "unlikely" rather than "incrediblly unlikely" Indeed it wouldn't, which would leave the RCD detecting current flowing through the victim as the only protection in...

Where to buy small length cable?

In my experience most of the major DIY stores now only sell cable in pre-packed form. Smaller local DIY stores may still sell it by the meter. TLC sell cable by the meter online, not sure if they also do so in-branch and if-so whether you have any branches in your area.

What sort of earthing do I have?

Sorry, when I skimmed through the thread earlier and saw the cutout, I somehow thought it was a large commercial supply, but looking closer it seems to "only" be a regular 100A TP supply. Yes, so 1A with a 50Ω earth or 10A with a 5 ohm earth. No specific maximum, just a matter of what can be...

Those extension leads, on a drum

Both myself and my parents have large reels on tubular stands, though I wouldn't exactly describe them as "industrial grade" (in particular the side peices of the reel are plastic, and on my parents one they are starting to break down with age), they get used for a two main things in my...

What sort of earthing do I have?

The absense of an earth (intentional or otherwise) to one piece of metalwork does not imply the absence of an earth (intentional or otherwise) to other pieces of metalwork. That said, in some countries it was the norm to have no earths at all in dry rooms, on the theory that if there is no...
