    insulation

Don't know about under floors, should be, but there are probably reasons why not. However, I can confirm that it makes a massive difference when used inbetween stud walling blocking up an old doorway. In my school there was a doorway into a classroom from a library. The doorway was no...

Best way to strip paint from 100 doors?

Just been watching Our House 2 on one of the sky channels, with the delectable Jenny Powell (fancied her since I first saw her on Jonathan King's No Limits, ahhh...) Anyway, to the point, they had a cast iron fireplace, covered inpaint, which they got sand blasted, looked great after that...

Plastering - What product to use for taping joints

Use the self-adhesive (scrim) jointing tape, and simply plaster clean over. That's what I do and I seem to do a lot of plastering during the school hols! No complaints from my bosses.

    Feel a complete drip

Are you sure some little plonker hasn't turned your stop cock off at your boundry line? Sounds like the last occupants may have turned the water off, just in case, when they left, and you've used up what you had in the tank by now. Might be worth checking the outside supply to be sure it's...

    Painted paveing flags

Hire a pressure washer if you don't want to buy one, or have the use to make buying one worth while. Just don't try to wash the pebble dash with it! Or the paint work on your car!

    Electric Extractor Fan

Sounds like you either have the fan the wrong way round, or the wires the wrong way round and it's reversed. Double check wiring diagram is best I can offer.

    tensile steel wire, shower curtain

Am I misreading this, but a steel wire for a shower curtain? Can you think Rust :D If you want the wire for hanging spotlights on, check out your local electrical store, the wire actually runs a current I believe. (current, currant?, nope, current! Right first time! )

    plasterboard

Should stick, yes. Ahh, know the feeling. Always thought that plastering a ceiling was beyond me too. I could skim plasterboard on a wall, and if I say so myself, I've got quite good at it. Let's face it, work let me do the majority of plastering these days, so they must be quite happy with...

    plasterboard

Sorry, but why don't you want to plaster it? Plasterboard, unplastered on a bathroom/toilet ceiling is going to look awful! I know, we have a toilet block where, to cut corners, the ceiling is unplastered, seams visible, screws visible, just painted over. Works, but it looks dreadful!

Hi PTH Thanks for the offer, I've been given a nice simple one that suits the welding/grinding work to be done down to the ground. Just had to type it up and lay it out for our own use, see how it goes this week now! Thanks to everyone for their help! MUCH appreciated!

    Hot Works Permit

    Hot Works Permit

No, it's some welding and iron work going on at the (external) rear of the building and we have, apparently, to issue the firm with one of these Hot Works Permits. Also, from what I've found out so far, it's issued a day at a time? Is this right, does anyone know please?

    Hot Works Permit

Does anyone know of, or better still, have a copy to borrow, the format of a HOT WORKS PERMIT please? We are having some work done next week and our insurers now insist on this item, but have given us no idea of what it looks like,or where to get one, plus the engineers have now asked us for...

Locks Locks Locks - which one?

Usually, the number of levers in a lock make no difference to the thickness of the lock, usually! Certain between a three and a five anyway. You may need to do a little bit of tweaking, but it should be a case of simply unscrewing the screws from one, easing the old one out, and sliding the new...

Locks Locks Locks - which one?

Final Exit locks will probably need to be five lever. 2 1/2 or 3 inch? That's the depth of the lock from the plate. S/S Stainless Steel (I think) P/B Polished Brass 2 1/2" 5 lever lock If you can take the lock out, measure across the lack to find its width.

    Homemade weedkiller?

Yeah, also, with all these #### rules and regs coming out of Brussels, it's probably illegal to do so anyway! The only good Brussels' are sprouts!
