    Faulty MCB

Click Sure wrote I think they are more 'diverse' than you would imagine. I always thought they just did enclosures too until i came across some 3 phase sockets and plugs from them which led to me having a peek on their website. Cant remember the site address but i remember thinking they seem...

Bonding issue - can we join the bonding

Obviously better if you can keep the conductor uncut but you dont have the liberty so not a great deal you can do. I too would personally go with cutting the conductor and crimping a new piece on which was then continous to both water and gas....quick continuity test after and jobs a good...

Is a landlords cert a full PIR ?

Slightly off topic but in the general theme............ Went to view a house last week (with a view to buying) and was being shown round by the estate agent (he didnt know i was a sparky). Questioned him about the electrics in the house, i.e are they safe, up to standards. He told me that a...

    3 Phase HRC Fuse Board

The fuse looks like it could be from an old MEM style board- we have some at work that are very similar. The GEC / 'red spot' boards (if i remember right) have fuses which look slightly different-the ones ive seen do anyway. Both these boards do have maximum ratings for the fuses so just...

    terminating unwanted socket

The best thing you can do is remove the leg of the circuit that comes to the socket and the leg that goes to the next socket (assuming ring circuit) and re-instate the ring between the 2 points you have left. If the socket is a spur then you could disconnect from where it is spurred from...

A Weird project I know... help needed!

You cannot use dimmer switches for such an application so forget that. The way to control a motor speed is by using a suitable inverter or variable speed drive.

    cables near gas pipes

The 25mm 'rule' can be seen in the onsite guide i believe (not got my copy handy). Have a look and see if it offers a regulation. Im pretty sure there's nothing specific in the 17th about proximity of cables to gas specifically, but i would think the section referring to proximity to other...

    Using 110V 16A cable with 240V supply

I can sympathise Ricicle-its a complete and utter joke. Rang YEDL in the summer enquiring about the type of protective device and earthing type used on the supply to one of our works industrial units. Spoke to a couple of different people who either didnt have a clue what i was talking about...

what circuit do outside lights go on?

Spur from the ringmain would be how i would do it, can then use the fcu as a switch aswell. Coming off the lightning circuit runs the risk of overloading it if your fitting a few floodlights. steve wrote ? :?

I'll try and get them on tomorrow Coljack Sparkydude, whilst i agree in principal with what you are saying, calling a structural engineer out for this particular circumstance i would say is way over the top! Do we call out an engineer when we want to drill joists? I dont know what the load...
