    Kitchen ring main safety

No all of the kitchen sockets run in a ring (apart from one spurred) to and from the 15amp fuse

    Kitchen ring main safety

Thanks for your reply. It is definitely a ring and using 2.5mm cable and the fuse is 15amp. Good idea about getting first fix done

    Kitchen ring main safety

I have the plasterboard down so I can see the cable route, it runs from the 15amp fuse around the sockets and back to the fuse. The fuse box is right next to the kitchen so it was easy to see. Hob extractor is 13amp plug into a socket that is spurred from one of the closest ring sockets

    Kitchen ring main safety

Had a scour through the forum and I'm a bit bamboozled by the varying opinions and rules etc, so forgive me if this is answered elsewhere. Just decided to gut and replace my kitchen and took interest in the electics as the house was built in 1983 and still has the old fuse box which I will be...

    faulty diverter valve

Thanks for your reply. Which of the two valves that I describe do you think will be the one to the heating circuit? The 2 port valve with the 'flat/open' lever can be pulled off the pipe revealing the actual mechanical valve in the water pipe. Everything turns with finger pressure. I...

    faulty diverter valve

I have a problem that the heating to my radiators does not switch off despite the wall control unit indicating the CH is off, the heating also does not go off when I turn down the room thermostat. The only way that I can get the heating off is to cut the power to the control unit by switching...

    coffee table from sleepers

Going to have a go at making a coffee table from railway sleepers and I would be grateful for any suggestions at to how best to join this size of timber together so that it is strong and secure. Clearly whatever method I use needs to be neat and out of sight, but also very secure. I did...

Gas boiler checked but still smells of gas

Ok, an update for anyone interested. The engineer came yesterday and replaced four parts in the boiler, he said that it was a total waste of money as the boiler was so old, but the landlord had instructed him to do it as opposed to replacing the boiler. He also said that there was no doubt...

Gas boiler checked but still smells of gas

Ok, an engineer from the same company came along and examined the boiler. He said "The guy that came before must've been a Numpty" He said that a gas valve was leaking, he is returning tomorrow with the part to repair. I'll find out tomorrow exactly what it was. Glad I took the...

Gas boiler checked but still smells of gas

Thanks for that. The CO detector is the electronic type and seems to be working properly. The original gas engineer is revisiting tomorrow so I am giving the benefit of my doubt at the moment. The smell of gas has gone since the gas has been shut off so it is definitely to do with that...

    Fitting flow regulator to shower

Have done a search but don't seem to be able to find the info on this. I would like to have a go at fitting a Triton Dover manual mixer shower (not the best I now), I'm clearly not a plumber but perfectly able to route and connect pipes so would like to do this myself. The house runs a combi...

Gas boiler checked but still smells of gas

Thanks for your reply. I was not asking for anyone to comment on the safety of the boiler merely the situation as I presented it. The NG engineer examined it for safety. The engineer that deemed the boiler safe was from a company so I guess he will be qualified and registered, his details...

Gas boiler checked but still smells of gas

Quite possible I suppose but the smell of gas was still there when he fired it up. That was when he told my daughter that it was because the boiler hadn't been used for a while.

Gas boiler checked but still smells of gas

It's actually my daughters flat so I wasn't there when he came, although I wish I had been. I believe that he left a report but I haven't seen it yet, that should have the details on so I'll get it tomorrow and take a look. Given the responses so far, I will definitely report it. If I don't...

NG just been out and said boiler is leaking fumes and is unsafe, thanks for your replies which gave me the confidence to call them out again. Now the real battle will start tomorrow when we contact the management company to arrange to get the problem sorted. I am so p*ssed off that the...
