    3phase to 240v

I would imagine a 3 phase board would be installed and all your circuits will be spread across the 3 phases.

VARILIGHT TOUCH DIMMER PROBLEMS >>>>>PLEASE H

What type of lamp are you trying to dim? You say transformers so I presume it is a low voltage light fitting, are you sure these transformers are dimmable? ETA sorry didn't see you previously said you had them dimming off a standard dimmer.

    Electronic Ballast

No live plants, thanks for the link, now that you mention it I've got a couple of those controllers from previous tanks, but for 2 foot lamps, if they're not factory sealed I could pop in a different switch start ballast. Cheers

    Electronic Ballast

Hi, just a quick query, hopefully someone will be able to help. After upgrading my fishtank I'm requiring to provide lighting for it. I was hoping to be able to use my existing lamps ( fishtank lamps seem to be pricey) and just rig them up to an electronic ballast. Anyways, would a standard 2...

The first alarm :- Put your 2 reds in to the brown connection of your new smoke alarm. Put your black and blue in to your blue connection of your new alarm. The yellow will go to the white connection of your new alarm. Yellow/green in a connector if there isn't an earth connection. Second...

    Hard wired smoke alarms

In my experience, when carrying out any extensions I've always been requested to fit inteconnected smoke alarms into the existing house aswell as the new extension. Think its common practice TBH, atleast up here in Scotland. You could go back to the architect and say what he says but you may...

    outside lighting fault tracing

what you need to do is totally disconnect the cables that go in to the lights and put them in connector/chock bloc ( Reds together,Yellows together & blues together*) effectively taking the lights totally out the circuit so what you really have is 1 long cable run with 3 joins in it. If the MCB...

    outside lighting fault tracing

Disconnect all your lights and put your mains cable in connector, if MCB still trips then the cables damaged. If the MCB holds, connect your lights up one by one and see if you can narrow it down to one or several fittings, maybe water has got in and corroded the lamp holder. Ideally an...

Fitting 10mm cable for electric shower

If the cable run is surface the use some PVC trunking, if your running inside walls have a search for "safe zones". Do you know if your fuse box has RCD protection, if not you/your sparky will need to add an additional box to incorporate one.

How did you become an electrician?

Left school not knowing what to do, my dad was a spark so I just applied for an apprenticeship and got a start with quite a large contractor in Glasgow. Served my time with a good variety of commercial/domestic/industrial work. After I passed the trade test I, and my fellow apprentice sparks...

    Halogen 12v Spotlights going out

I often find the pins on the lamps end up a little corroded, a very light rub with sand paper may help. Make sure the lamp holders look sound, these are about a quid each to replace. Also make sure there is ample space above the lamps to let heat escape, clear any insulation away from the...

    Bathroom Extractor Fan

It should come on with the lights but its not uncommon to have a separate switch. Often if its a timer fan, there should be a isolater switch somewhere local. If there is a 3 core cable at it will probably be a run on timer fan, if its just a 2 core cable then it should have a switch somewhere...

Fitting downlights with 2 layer plasterboard ceiling?

As above really, if the springs don't take you could notch a bit of the plasterboard away where the clips sit on the plasterboard with a padsaw. Or if you can get above the ceiling you could drill a pilot hole from below then from above drill down to the first layer with say a 4" cutter, then...
