    Surprising news about Diesels

It's hygroscopic and none of my vehicles will be able to use it for various reasons. They don't seem keen to put it in Higher octane fuels yet though...downside is that stuff costs more. It's only there to keep the madmen in Brussels happy so hopefully an EU retreat will keep us out of it.

Lets hope the ethanol pause carries on too.....maybe forever if Brexit is triggered.

    Van recomendations/ avoidances?

Yeh I'm not sure Ford got it right with the sizes of them. Mine is mainly city centre and is OK but the big transit would be a pain to park. Weights were not an issue for me but price was and the Ford gives so much extra for the money. The newer VW is a poor re-hash of the previous model for an...

    Van recomendations/ avoidances?

Transit Custom is not a repalcement for the MK7 Transit. The Mk8 is the real successor to that and it looks huge but they are not as common as the Custom. I have a Custom and I'm not convinced I would get another unless they changed the engine. Cleaning it every week shows Ford have learned...

    Drayton acl Lifestyle Mid-Position Valve

Have a search on here. There was a thread on how to swap the new style actuator onto old style body but it's a bit of muck about to do it and I have never been arsed to do so. Some of the parts of each type are also directly interchangeable but I can't remember if the board is or not which is...

    American or Australian pipe fittings

I would measure it, if it's close to 1/2" as the fitting suggests I would cut the blue pipe and fit a new head to it with a suitable fitting.

Gas hob minimum distance to tall larder unit

I haven't checked for a while but I thought in the absence of MI's it was 50mm on all sides and 460mm to anything above inside that 50mm clearance box.

Alpha CB24 Boiler - Heating But No Hot Water

Piece of **** job....an hour tops for the diaphragm and the worst that can happen is the grub screws are stuck....you can even test that before you begin. I think some of you balloons just want the diverter for scrap and 300 quid in your back pocket.

Boiler Change - BAXI or Potterton

Difficult to say without being there....you need to get advice on sizing from your fitter. 24kw might be ok.....its fine in one of my places with a similar size property.

Boiler Change - BAXI or Potterton

It will heat the house ok....it's the hot water that can be an issue with 24kw boilers. How many taps? does it run the shower/bath??

Boiler Change - BAXI or Potterton

They are almost identical inside and just branded differently. As said above not a terrible boiler and the only faults that come up often are no more frequent than other boilers.....they love to bend ignition probes at a quick rate but thats a cheap fix

Boiler Change - BAXI or Potterton

Is repairable though....although you will be chucking good money at a bad boiler. I wouldn't get it repaired if it was mine....you might be lucky though....7 years from a solo with no faults.....a new world record. :)

    Bmw 1 series 116ise

It's probably an N13 engine.....pretty sure that's the BMW Peugeot hybrid turd. Avoid it at all costs as major and expensive woes are nearly always nearby. The Timing chain tensioners/guides eat themselves for fun. I found loads of plastic bits in my mates 118i sump....too many to be comfy with...

    SNP hypocrites

They stated from the start they would vote on matters "they thought" would affect Scottish matters in some way. There was an explanation for their vote on this somewhere but I forget what it was and can't remember the source. Knowing the SNP it would have been a weak explanation at best.

Are Snap On tools worth the £s ?

I like my Halfords stuff too but don't turn up and expect them to change anything. As Ollski says the ratchets are only a year and if you turn up with anything other than scratches on it they can refuse. I tried to get a socket changed and they claimed it had been struck with a hammer and...
