    New toy from ebay

whats the lead like? I've had a couple of adaptors like that, both with equally suspicious leads, one I swear had only 3 or 4 strand of "copper" in there, despite being printed as 0.75. my adaptors, one came form a known hong kong company, the other came with my Tablet, form what I thought was...

    Humming/buzzing speaker

is it an all in one system, or one with seperate DVD/audio sources. If the former, probably a trip to the menders. If the latter, unplug the sources one by one, a dodgy interconnect can cause hums.

Changing from Front Page 2003 to Dreamweaver MX

I use 000webhost, free and you get 1500Mb of space, never had a problem yet. I think you might want to google lightbox, ie click a small image on your page, darkens the screen and zooms a large version to you. Cant remember how I did it, but IIRC the code is all online, with instructions on...

Peugeot 106 diesel clutch disengagement problem.

I had a similar issue on a 406, cant comment if the system is similar. On the 406 there is a sleeve that sits over the shaft, this becomes grooved over time, mine started off as a little resistance at a certain point, then got progressively worse till said sleeve split and jammed the clutch in...

    help me choose my hardware...

Im wanting to upgrade my machine, the current unit has 4Gb Ram, and cannot take any more, with Win7 sucking up so much, it leaves me little for video and image editing, video is starting to get tedious. I have a Radeon HD 6670, which will need to go in the new machine, needs 6 SATA ports...

Troubleshooting electrics on a borehole pump

IMO, it sounds like the motor is getting on a bit, you said it was 10 years old, its possible that its sticking, and a few movements get it running again. presumably the motor is sealed with it being in a borehole pump (not had experience of these, so an assumption here) otherwise a strip and...

    Fatally Flawed

Indeed I have, I even had a conversation with OFSTED, as my kids nursary had been told they MUST use them by the inspector, OFSTED assured me they did no such thing, and were going to advise inspectors otherwise, including extra measures if nurserys thought that standard sockets were not safe...

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

http://www.varta-automotive.com/?id=515&artikelNr=830150090B922&L=0 This has a discharge curve on it, OK its for an AGM battery, but the curve of leisure is similar, basically, up to 50% charge is usable, after this, the curve drops sharply to dead (the way the battery works, and the extra...

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

theoretically yes, but in reality, no. for these purposes, a leisure or traction battery would be better, they are designed for low load over long periods, car batteries are designed for large current over short time. also, if this is a competition, later competitors would have a reduced...

    Extend ring or dedicated feed?

besides the socket issue, how are you cooling these, there will be ALOT of heat generated by 4 towers. As eric says, earth leakage on IT kit may be a problem, I have a laser printer, netswitch, 2 servers miniPC & UPS running in my loft, it leaks enough to hurt, don't ask how I know. It also...

12v to power a Scalextic in a field

what type of cars are you running, my understanding is the older "analog" cars had speed controlled through the voltage going to the track, this would have a larger voltage drop issue as you could only feed power from one point. If you have the newer "digital" cars, the speed is controlled in...

    Wiring in air compressor

if its not too stupid a question, what do you need a compressor that will needs a 40A supply for? there are PLENTY of compressors that will run from a 13A socket, or if you are going to be a heavy user, a 16A socket, even the 1 man mechanics I know only have a 16A compressor.
