Mini Digger in a terraced garden

Thanks r896neo. We are likely to get the stumps ground down first as we realise that a big machine would be needed to dig them out - the trees were pretty big - we think they were about 50 years old! In fact we have had a stump grinding quote already which is reasonable given the access...

    Charged to fix contractors work

Not to start the argument again but as an update I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and just paid the invoice as it was. It is interesting to the see the diverse responses here though, both from the consumer and the trades people alike. By the way I have told the whole story as it is and...

Mini Digger in a terraced garden

Thanks foor the response. Whilst it needs refacing the actual retaining wall is doing its job so ideally I don't want to have to knock those down - i think it might be a case of waiting until we decide what to do with the house. I wonder if I may be able to speak to the people behind and ask...

    2 Bed Bungalow into....

Well I know it has taken a while but time flies when you are having fun...we have finally managed to clear the whole the garden. Well... Myself and 2 friends removed 4 of the large conifers in about 5 hours but the two largest we decided were too big - plus the quantity of waste material to get...

Mini Digger in a terraced garden

Mmmm - not sure - a bit less than a metre I think! The biggest issue is that the steps don't go all the way up for some reason. There is a step of about 50 cm's maybe more at the top! and also they are a bit crumbly! The facing of the retaining walls will need removing eventually!

Mini Digger in a terraced garden

We bought a project house late last year - we have finally managed to clear the garden of the 6 massive conifers that had been allowed to grow too large - our neighbours are very grateful of the new light. Next step for me would be to have two of the stumps ground out and then start to level...

    loft conversion smoke detectors

Friends have recently done this and their BC said they could either swap all the doors for fire doors or put a smoke alarm in every room...they chose the later.

    Charged to fix contractors work

I never expect something for nothing...I have also said that I am going to pay it - at the end of the day he loses out on thousands of pounds of work - his problem but I can't be bothered with the arguments. He also at no point has gone out of his way you obvioulsy didn't read the whole thread...

Eggshell vs Satinwood - Skirting boards

Dulux trade satinwood or similar I have found the best in the past. It has a slight sheen which helps smooth out some of the dents! Also because it is oil based the finish is much better. Everytime I have used a water based Satinwood or eggshell I have been disapointed with the finish of it.

    Charged to fix contractors work

The whole truth and nothing but. He did the boiler fitting for a very good price (not cheap but a good price), I suggest he is trying to get a bit back on it. Ultimately I will pay it but he wont get anymore work. So has missed out on thousands for the sake of £100. I would have prefered if he...

    Charged to fix contractors work

Not at all - We phoned him - he came straight from his house to ours 5 minutes away, he checked the boiler then the cooker then sprayed his liquid (which I feel he probably should have done on fitting) identified the leak, turned off the gas. (10 mins) He then said he had a job booked in for the...

    Charged to fix contractors work

He charged me £100million pounds! Now in all seriousness he charged me £100. My feeling is he is charging me the price for fitting the cooker - which I guess he did - but had said he would do for nothing. I should add that he didn't check the existing pipework for leaks on fitting as I was in...

    Charged to fix contractors work

Just a quick one here hopefully. We recently had a boiler fitted, as part of the job we asked him to fit our gas cooker which as he said was a quick job and he was onsite he would do. It was a bayonet fitting and pipe onto new cooker. A day after fitting we kept noticing a gas smell (boiler...
