    line-neutral insulation resistance test

Not even dimmers or electronic gizmos, I suspect he couldn't be bothered to go around the house taking all the lamps out! LED spots are another reason you'd struggle to do it. Without a click-flow or similar on the back of the fitting it's near impracticable. If there is genuinely no CPC on...

2nd Bathroom Extractor Fan can we spur off existing?

Not particularly useful when the OP clearly has a wall mounted fan, but yes they are damn powerful

New Dimmer switch - Help needed

Oh I thought your 'think about it' comment meant he was very unlikely to have connected earth to live - maybe it did. If the OP comes back, I guess we'll find out. Perhaps he means he connected the earth to this 'squiggly line'

    Retrofit 2nd RCD

The only problem with trying to add a second RCD to that board is the way the factory connections are done. They're solid copper links from the main switch to the non-rcd neutral terminal. You'd need to get that out and then get some tri-rated (usually 16mm²) singles and take one from the main...

New Dimmer switch - Help needed

Obviously it would cause a big bang if the bare copper was connected to an earth path, but there are lots of installations, particularly those with no cpc on the lighting circuit or conduit as the cpc that have switch drops/strappers in twin/3c+e that don't have a full path because some joey has...

New Dimmer switch - Help needed

I hope you don’t mean you put the earth and the the red into the same terminal! Cos that’s what it sounds like you’ve done

Upgrading 12v dimmer tungstens to LED

Jeez! I think an H2 Pro would be more than adequate! I’d need a bank loan! I wouldn’t fancy fitting my house out with H5s!

What SWA cable do I need to supply cabin

I don’t think the OP needs an electrician, I think he needs his local DNO! Even with diversity that’s gonna be a hefty submain!

Source for Wago blocks - Farnell

Of course not a) they're likely to just get thrown into general waste rather than being deliberately separated and b) not all plastics are widely recycled - some not at all. You would hope CPC would make them from recyclable plastics but the percentage of people that would think to recycle...

But cardboard isn’t even really an issue. Yes it’s from trees but it’s biodegradable and I’d wager a large percentage of our carboard is made from recycled products already.

    Strange Supply Fault

I suspect something similar must have been the case here - only 3 phase load on the feeder. They sorted it the same day so they must have known where to look

So what do I expect to find in this cutout & having an isolator fitted

You could say that! I like to do my bending before I even cut meter tails. If you cut them first you have to trim the ends because the copper ends up being all different lengths from the different bend radii. Bend it first - no stress on any connectors The tri-rated stuff in CUs is much...

    Flood light

There will definitely be a neutral at the outdoor light or it wouldn’t work. There SHOULD be an Earth and you’ll have to check. If there isn’t and your new light requires one, you’re going to have to do some rewiring. For whatever reason someone has used a joint box somewhere for the outside...

    alternative

That doesn't necessarily mean it's faulty. More likely you have a fault on your wiring. Went to an RCD fault today where 'everything was unplugged'. Found their dog had chewed the flex on an extension lead under the cupboards that was still plugged in

So what do I expect to find in this cutout & having an isolator fitted

Now that you've said it's eaton I can see that it is. They must just be using the same moulding as the old MEM one, which would make sense. It's a cheap as chips enclosure to make, all plastic (and tbh, a bit crap) As to where you can get it from, not sure. I'll check tomorrow see if it has a...

So what do I expect to find in this cutout & having an isolator fitted

Tri rated is not fun to work with! Had to use some on a 3P+N supply that had to be extended because some idiot in a scissor lift had driven into an outdoor enclosure fed in 75mm² SWA and the only DI cable the wholesalers could get us in that size was Tri Rated. It's a pig to strip and it's a...

So what do I expect to find in this cutout & having an isolator fitted

It is 6181Y but it's 20 strand not 7. Used some today and double checked the strands and the markings. Makes it MUCH easier to work with than the 7 strand stuff.

    RCD Top or Bottom Supply.

It shouldn't matter. The convention is the incomer goes in the top because the busbar goes in the bottom. What does the diagram on the front say? Anything helpful?

Source for Wago blocks - Farnell

I used to have close dealings with a fairly large scale distributor, nothing on the scale of CPC but thousands and thousands of products. They used to send you a single screw/bolt/washer per bag. BUT they were almost always snap-lock bags. The were stickered with a barcode etc for pickers but...

Is metal stud-work required to be earthed?

It is on the NICEIC EICR (and I assume others), can't say I've come across any metal stud work that wasn't in new builds at all (which are obviously all RCD protected and thus irrelevant)
