I have a similar setup to yourself Jez. 10mm microbore, Y-plan system. I had a noisy pump and problems with hammering of the TRV's due to the pressure in the system when they were closing. I fitted a Grundfos Alpha 2 and don't regret it. Perfectly quiet, no more hammering and more energy...

Change the thermistor. New PCB's require the thermistor to be changed at the same time. My 50FF was the same. PCB blew, swapped it out, heating only luke warm. Changed thermistor, all good.

Do a search. Plenty to read about and answers to the S53 code on the forum. :)

I got a PCB off eBay. It was a genuine Glow Worm part and brand new. It could be the spark electrode needs it's gap adjusting and/or cleaning. http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34085&view=next

PCB and thermistors are notorious for failing on these. PCB's are on sale on eBay a lot cheaper than elsewhere. You can get the thermistor from part centre. Could be something else as you haven't explained in much depth. Loads of stuff to read about it on here. Do a search.

I know zero about your boiler and am just a DIY enthusiast, but I would say that if your boiler has some form of flame detection, that may not be functioning correctly.

There is no correct answer to the question of where you should put a thermostat. The best thing you could do to control the temperature is to have TRV's on all your rads except for where the room stat is located. That way you can control the temp limit each room will reach individually...

I disagree. It is a DIY job as I changed the thermistor (and the phial it sits in) myself in my GW Micron. I didn't have to touch the fan.

The most economical way would be to do-it-yourself. Learn and understand your own heating system and save the expense of paying an RGI to do work you can do yourself! :o Paying someone else is rarely economical. :wink:

Change the thermistor first then see how the boiler performs.

Boiler manufacturers recommend getting at least three quotes for the same work before contracting the work to someone.

Contradicting my own reply, if both live terminals are linked, you could use the other (unused) terminal to make the link :)

Correct, you can do it either way. They both achieve the same result. It also depents on what gauge of wire you use as the teminals in the relay unit are tiny and it can be a squeeze to get two wires in one terminal.
