Replacing Wilo Gold-D pump with Grundfos Alpha 2

Hi Jez, When the rads are stone cold, the pump reads 15w. With most of the TRV's closed, it drops to about 8w. The pump is so quiet, only aural indication that the heating is on is from the flue fan in my Glow Worm Micron boiler, which I think has bearings which are on their way out. I...

Replacing Wilo Gold-D pump with Grundfos Alpha 2

I have a similar setup to yourself Jez. 10mm microbore, Y-plan system. I had a noisy pump and problems with hammering of the TRV's due to the pressure in the system when they were closing. I fitted a Grundfos Alpha 2 and don't regret it. Perfectly quiet, no more hammering and more energy...

    Glowworm Micron 40ff Pcb problem?

Change the thermistor. New PCB's require the thermistor to be changed at the same time. My 50FF was the same. PCB blew, swapped it out, heating only luke warm. Changed thermistor, all good.

Glow Worm Micron 40ff boiler problems

I got a PCB off eBay. It was a genuine Glow Worm part and brand new. It could be the spark electrode needs it's gap adjusting and/or cleaning. http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34085&view=next

Glow Worm Micron 40ff boiler problems

PCB and thermistors are notorious for failing on these. PCB's are on sale on eBay a lot cheaper than elsewhere. You can get the thermistor from part centre. Could be something else as you haven't explained in much depth. Loads of stuff to read about it on here. Do a search.

    oil boiler problem

I know zero about your boiler and am just a DIY enthusiast, but I would say that if your boiler has some form of flame detection, that may not be functioning correctly.

    where to place a thermostat?

There is no correct answer to the question of where you should put a thermostat. The best thing you could do to control the temperature is to have TRV's on all your rads except for where the room stat is located. That way you can control the temp limit each room will reach individually...

Optimum CM927 settings for fuel economy with WB 28Cdi?

Y-A-W-N If you took the time to read my post properly, you'd note that I never mentioned working on the gas side of things. Everyone is quick to jump on people about unqualified people working on gas, and I don't condone it. But that doesn't mean people can't work on the other parts of their...

Optimum CM927 settings for fuel economy with WB 28Cdi?

My Dad's bigger than your Dad :D You dont need a van full of tools to work on the rest of your CH system that doesn't require an RGI to do it. You can balance the rads, change your pump, valve, switch to a sealed system and so on and so forth. You don't need to talk your job up. It's...

    HELP - Boiler problems!!!

I disagree. It is a DIY job as I changed the thermistor (and the phial it sits in) myself in my GW Micron. I didn't have to touch the fan.

Optimum CM927 settings for fuel economy with WB 28Cdi?

The most economical way would be to do-it-yourself. Learn and understand your own heating system and save the expense of paying an RGI to do work you can do yourself! :o Paying someone else is rarely economical.

Wiring Honeywell CM927 to Worcester 28Cdi

Contradicting my own reply, if both live terminals are linked, you could use the other (unused) terminal to make the link :)

Wiring Honeywell CM927 to Worcester 28Cdi

Correct, you can do it either way. They both achieve the same result. It also depents on what gauge of wire you use as the teminals in the relay unit are tiny and it can be a squeeze to get two wires in one terminal.
