Low block salt indicator for water softener

Hi, generally water sortners rely on the end user checking them and making sure the brine/salt tank is topped up. The softner will always regenerate but if the brine level is low it will just regenerate with hard water. I have fitted some large commercial softners and small domestic and they...

Are Copper boilers compatible with water softeners ?

You wont have any problems fitting a softner. Aluminium heat exchangers are more at risk when powerflushing if the wrong chemicals are used but not really an issue in domestic flushing, and more to the point you're not flushing it anyway! If you have done a water hardness test and its over...

Are Copper boilers compatible with water softeners ?

Yes, you can use the Kinetico. If you think about it, most water pipes are copper and the softened water would be always be in the copper pipes without causing issues. When water heats up it creates more lime scale if the water is hard so if the water is softened then this is less of an issue!

Adding radiators to a CH system

    Cistern problem - won't refilll

That's a torbeck water inlet valve. You need to isolate water to cistern or turn mains off and undo the big blue nut that houses the diaphragm washer(black rubber with white plastic in the middle about the size of a fifty pence piece). It may just be grit blocking the flow, you'll know one...

How to increase water pressure in the shower

Is it an electric shower or a mixer shower? If its electric and you have a water tank in your loft then you could fit a pumped electric shower that would need to be fed from the cold water tank. If you dont have a tank in the loft then you would need to fit one! If its a mixer and fed...

    Asbestos in Heating Cupboard?

Probably is asbestos, although you cant tell what type it is just by looking at it! I'd remove the door and double bag it and then the local council should pick it up for free!

Drain off immediately after stop cock? DHW drain off?

Normally goes immediately after stop cock. Where does your incoming rise? Is it under your kitchen sink? Can you Provide a picture? Your DHW drain off would normally come off the bottom of your hot water cylinder. If you have a combi then it doesn't apply. Most new builds would have drain offs...

Salus RT500RF Programmable Room Stat Questions

These Salus wireless prog room sats aren't that bad for what they cost. I always take out pins 2 and 4 and turn off 2 and 4 to give it a unique frequency seeing as though most households have wireless laptops, printers etc. I've fitted a fair few and had no problems at all!

New House: Combi Boiler and header tank in loft question

Remove tank and convert to mains, easy job. If its a large tank and now only feeds your whb and wc then it will probably have a low turn over rate and have biofilm and be a health risk (Pseudomonas aeruginosa). With regards to your cistern, you will need to replace the ball valve orifice from...
