    Box end board

Yes you can ‘cheese it’ if you want but bear in mind any joins will look a lot dirtier in years to come. Our plastics supplier sells 400 board by the metre. Some places by half a length. You won’t need to buy a whole length.

Looking at changing downpipe and hopper to cast iron style

Yes go for cast iron lookalike but there are lots of versions out there that are awful. You’ll need to go for Brett Martin cascade. They invented it. Not sure where you are but www.theplasticsdepot.co.uk in Birmingham by us can order it in for you. I’ve had cascade on my house for 8 years and...

How to replace fascia board butt joint

When using jumbo fascia the two pieces of fascia must both meet on a rafter. This ensures you can perfectly level up your join and your polypins won’t bounce around when nailing the joiner which should be nailed on the one side only. That right hand side fascia will always move around now.

    Holes in polycarbonate covering

Those funky canopies were big some years back due to their aluminium curved design and ease of fit as well as good value for money. However they all came with shockingly shyte 5mm greenhouse poly. It’s the same poly that’s used to replace greenhouse glass. It’s all they could use that would...

It shows that it’s Firestone LSFR low slope flat roof epdm Firestone aren’t interested in bubbles. The joins you see are factory joins it’s...

    Newbie question about guttering

indeed. The free flow gutter by Freefoam is co extruded. White on the inside and coloured on the outside and offers up to 40% less thermal movement than a solid coloured gutter. The neoprene seals don’t dry out like rubber. Only thing is it’s a tad thinner than, say, Marshall tufflex but it’s a...

Dry Verge OK to be fitted over existing render/undercloak?

Personally I think dry verge is shyte and it smells of cowboys. We get asked for it and we say we don’t do it. I’m sure a few on here will disagree with me that’s fine. The word ‘dry’ in dry verge means no mortar, so new build only where they make sure the existing breathable membrane goes all...

Buy more glazing bars or use wider sheets and more buttons? First attempt..

I know. Imagine 1: the amount of fixings buttons and, 2: getting them to site on the roof rack! We’ve never installed anything over 1m wide in all the years.

Buy more glazing bars or use wider sheets and more buttons? First attempt..

So it’s 5m width. What is the projection? Fixing buttons are no good. It doesn’t matter how well sealed they are you’ll always get moisture down the flutes directly below them. Wide poly sheets, no bars and fixing buttons should only be used on a shed or outbuilding where you don’t mind it...
