    Upvc fascia noggins

You can use offcuts of fascia as noggins to get it perfect and still drive the nail into the rafter so it will never sag.

    Replacing felt with Rubber

Sorry. Joining an epdm roof to a felt roof just doesn’t work, no matter how good the jointing kit is. Rubber roofs are best for stand alone roofs.

    Pests?

Dude, if it’s a squirrel carcass that looks like he’s fried himself on some electrical wires I think he’s dead.

    Nightmare - Need help!

I think anyway. I am having a beer, it’s been a long day.

    Nightmare - Need help!

He means extend the pipe out the wall a bit further, or have a play with some bends and stuff so the water goes where you want it to be.

    Payment Card Readers

I see. I just assumed it was a lot quicker. Maybe when they say they are doing bacs they’re doing this FPS thing perhaps, cause it seems to be hitting our account quickly.

    Payment Card Readers

90% or the time we do bacs, years ago bacs would take days. We’re Lloyd’s and a Lloyd’s customer payment is instant, other banks are usually a few hours or so, some other banks and it’s in the morning. We’ve never waited more than half a day for our money. We hit the customer with a 2% charge...

Help needed - trying to diagnose a problem

What they said. Looks like you have that horrible 80mm grey pipe, not quite soil pipe size. There is a chance the tees and pipe connectors are on upside down but I am overdue for my annual eye test. Undo one of the flexible band seals with a screwdriver and see if water pees out. Ooh, I’d...

Can I use plastic quadrant instead of Arris on my garden shed/workshop

An idea of gluing some white quadrant onto a felted roof to stop water dripping off will be about as effective as a one legged cat trying to bury a turd on a frozen lake.

    Replacing felt and EPS installation

If it’s small tiles and there are loads of hips and valleys that need the new felt and trays to be properly tucked under so lifted and rebedded then the price could be fine. Where in the midlands? We’re booked up till March ‘19 but I could put you in contact with someone decent.

Is this bonding gutter fitted right

I see hollow soffit on loads of dormers and front sidings. It’s like it’s the normal thing these days just to hollow everything. I don’t think half these roofers know it’s for soffit use only. Saying that, back in ‘98, one of the first jobs I ever fitted was a block of flats. Did the lot in...

Is this bonding gutter fitted right

Just wondering, did you have 27 quotes and go for the cheapest? Sorry to hear you’re having problems. The dormer cladding is pretty rough, all that silicone edged corner will go black over time.

    Bargeboards, undercloaking and water ingress

I think it just gets wet and looks damp.

    Bargeboards, undercloaking and water ingress

Yep, you’re right. Water does backtrack a little onto the gable outer rafter and then it dribbles down said rafter and congregates at the bottom. Whenever we strip off gable fascias, the bottom of the rafter is always mashed, although a lot of rot comes in via the box end as well. On some...

    Dry verge caps

It looks like you can see the cuts but I’m assuming the flat part of the tile tucks into the caps and it’s just that we can’t see the flat part of the tile. That’s my take on it. No way would the caps be fitted under the tiles, even Harvey Price wouldn’t do that.

    Opinions please.

Can you take more pics of the rest of the job in general? [Edit]. Ooh, my 3000th post. Do I get a beer?

3 laters of felt vs single ply membrane (tectofin)

My grandad bless him did the flat roof on top of our lounge over 30 years ago in mineral felt and it’s absolutely bang on even now. I don’t think epdm/or the techno thingy is as good as my grandads roof.
