    Glow Worm Compact 100e

As above - I had one of these boilers and it failed in the opposite manner. The hot water would not turn off when the tap was turned off and the boiler overheated. Turned out to be a duff diaphram as well.

Also found this on another forum ........ 406 PLIP PROGRAMMING The 406 deadlocking remote control has specific button controls, and if the vehicle has two controls, one is set as primary and the other as secondary. When replacing the Plip, a Primary or Secondary Plip are different part...

    Humming Noise

On a lot of cars, when you remove the battery (either car or keyfob) the sync is lost between the two. Often all you need to do after replacing the battery is turn the ignition on and press the button on the keyfob within 10 seconds to resync the fob to car. Sometimes you need the drivers door...

My wife works in the motor leasing industry. I run my own small business desigining electronic stuff for the "boy racers" and motor enthusiasts. I design, build and sell custom designed gauges (electronic - think Knight Rider), rev shift lights, speedometer/odometers, converters to allow...

    please help me CORGI

Well mine has 130k on it now so technically you've got a better car than me  On the other note, I use it for testing datalogging stuff that I design and build and if something went wrong and it caught fire then I wouldn't lose any sleep over it  Keep meaning to get something...

    please help me CORGI

Don't forget the mad rush of getting the SA forms done in time to avoid the fine and digging out every receipt you can find to make the books balance  You also missed out the ongoing cost for test equipment, rising fuel prices for callouts, pub lunches ........

Wise man. We live in a 4 bed detached house in a reasonable area and always have a new (<6 month old car) parked in the driveway. Unfortunately due to having a child with a disability, only one of us (my wife) can work full time and our joint income is less than the national average for...

Sime Format C Combi Boiler - PCB problems?

*** resistor *** by the looks of things. Make sure he replaces it with one of the same rating and value. If it goes again then its either one of three things. 1. The PCB manufacturer has underspecified the power dissipation of the component. 2. There is a fault elsewhere on the PCB which...

    Humming Noise

More than likely down to the effects of Guiness (and babysitting) while the wife is out with her friends  25hz is right at the lower limit of the average persons hearing anyway so its unlikely to be that low a frequency.

    Humming Noise

And if you want to be really picky (which I know you hate being Tony ;) ) you could use a spectrum analyser instead of a scope but these are a fair bit rarer (and more expensive) than a scope. If the hum is not a factor of 50Hz it should still not be rules out as electrical as some motors...

    Humming Noise

Hmm where do I start :p If you have a piezoelectric element, it will produce very little noise until its placed on a surface to resonate the sound (or in a tuned enclosure). Put my CH timer on a solid surface and it will stop humming. Press against the unit and it will stop humming. Place it...

    Humming Noise

You need someone to hook up an 'scope with a sensitive microphone (try and grab an old Tandy PZM one off Ebay - they aint cheap though). Hook the scope up to the microphone, make sure everyone is quiet and look for the frequency of the hum. If its 25hz, 50hz or 100hz then its likely mains...

I've had a quote of £750+vat labour only for 3 days work taking an old non combi off the wall and fitting a new combi in its place. That includes a flush, removing the old thermal store and running a new pipe from the meter. Most of the pipework is already within a couple of meters of the...

Sime Format C Combi Boiler - PCB problems?

Resistors don't just normally go of their own accord, they normally fail due to another fault on the board so if it has gone then I'd suggest a new board as well. You could get an electronics engineer to replace the resistor with a like for like replacement if the markings on it are intact and...

That will be a resistor then. Much as I'd like to advise you to make a note of the value/test it, this would be beyond your experience so I can't advise any more.

Sime Format C Combi Boiler - PCB problems?

Looking closer at the slightly clearer picture, the end of that "burnt" device looks a similar colour to the 3 resistors to the left of it. Can the original poster verify this ? It could well be a £0.01 resistor that has gone but these normally go for a reason rather than just wearing out or...

Sime Format C Combi Boiler - PCB problems?

I've seen zeners working all day in temperature in excess of 130 degrees C (not good practice though). The discolouration on the case could be due to a fried diode but could also be due to the extra air convection around the zener or even prolonged exposure to the higher temperature generated by...

Sime Format C Combi Boiler - PCB problems?

Indeed it does look like a diode. It could be a Zener diode in which case they can run hot (they work as a voltage regulator) and discolour the PCB/Plastic around them. Is the diode physically burnt out ? Is it a charred remnant or does it just look like its got hot ?
