How about getting BG in for a fixed price repair. for £170 they can change the pump. Speak nice to the Engineer and they will give you some advice.

look at the pressure gauge under the boiler, this should be between 1 - 1.5 if its a zero then there is not water in the system, hence banging. Fill up and see how you go!
