RSJ's, cavity trays and spacer bars.

Hey ^woody^ Cheers, getting a bit tired of catching problems rather than just being happy with how it's going up. I've attached a diagram of how it looks like they're continuing the wall above the steels, sorry my descriptions are pants. Would you have that dpc taken out and replace again...

RSJ's, cavity trays and spacer bars.

Hey @^woody^ and @tony1851 Got the builders to put the dpc in over the steels (although advised I'd read too much on google and some houses don't have them and they don't have damp problems) they have but not quite as neat as I'd liked. The steel continues out the side of the wall resting on...

RSJ's, cavity trays and spacer bars.

Cheers @^woody^ What are your thought on the other wall cavity tray? Needed or am I going OTT

RSJ's, cavity trays and spacer bars.

@^woody^ quick sketched the scenario we have above the bifold with 2 rsjs rather than the usual I beam welded to bottom plate. SE initially wanted a RHS welded to resist torque from wall but was crazy expensive so compromised this as we're rendering the outside anyway so will concrete board the...

RSJ's, cavity trays and spacer bars.

Cheers guys, @tony1851 I read that and made me think it wasn't that vital but just they'd been bricked in without spacer bars and didn't want to get them pulled up later on if BCO comes round. So although not really needed or necessary best put them in to prevent knock back later on? Would you...

RSJ's, cavity trays and spacer bars.

Hey guys, Think I know the answer but having 2 RSJs placed for extension and just wanted to check stuff before everything is set and the strong boys are taken out. They've not been finished but double checking; cavity tray above needed? and spacer bars needed or just bolting together with...

    Concrete floor slab issue

That's what you'd think / expect someone to be doing maintaining building standards, feel they're half checking and take a lot of what builder says on face value. Was in when they did the last check at insulation/dpm and all they did was ask the builder guided questions to the answer they're...

    Concrete floor slab issue

Please do! Yeah asked the structural engineer and he said it's not ideal but will prob be ok, tbh I find our SE like he's doing me a favour, he ain't the most helpful either ‍

    Concrete floor slab issue

Did you get anywhere with your 60mm slab issue? Only ask as I'm in a similar situation, extension is divide by a load bearing wall but one part is 100mm thick and one is only 60mm as they didn't leave enough room for UFH etc. Brought it up with them but they said as with you it'll be reet and...

    Joining walls of different thicknesses

Cheers @^woody^ That makes sense and defo a lot easier! Thanks for the advice. Where the 250mm meets up with the original solid wall would it be easier to start again or is there a way of tieing these in? Just a bit - original pre-war imperial bricks, 1st extension outer thermalite sheild...

    Joining walls of different thicknesses

Sorry yeah we're building on the side of the house. Essentially everything to the right of the dotted line in the above picture is to be the extension. So we're leaving the front wall of bed 3 in and extending from it to make one large room, demolishing the current wall through the middle (where...

    Kinda like this?

    Joining walls of different thicknesses

Thanks @Charlie George :) How am I best joining the ends of the brickwork above and below the steels to continue the cavity as is where or am I overthinking it and just wall starter from the end of the wall also and just remove the remainder of the wall where we are knocking through?

    Joining walls of different thicknesses

Hope these are a little better :). I've circled on each floor where the wall is to join and annotated the rear elevation where new and old all join to give an idea of where the issue is.

No problem, will get on it tomorrow. Enjoy the gins! :)

    Joining walls of different thicknesses

Haha, I'll try post a clearer drawing tomorrow. It's more continuing a ground floor solid wall/upstairs 250mm cavity to a 300mm cavity end on. So the new wall will be 300mm from floor to wall plate (on the left of drawing 3) but the walls I'm extending from are thinner and of different sizes on...

    Joining walls of different thicknesses

Hey @^woody^ I don't have the actual drawing to hand but I've tried to mock something up to give an idea of the dilemma. Drawing 1 is the SE drawings from the previous occupants 1st floor extension w/ 250mm cavity wall over the original solid ground floor wall. Drawing 2 is the schematic...

    Joining walls of different thicknesses

We bought our first house a few years ago and are set to self build our extension early next year. I have most of the build right in my head but wondered if anyone could puzzle out one point of the joint on a brickwork. The thing that's puzzling me a little is that various wall constructions...
