    Energy efficient light bulbs

I needed to return an item to one company. I tried to use their courier, thinking it'd be easier, but the item was just slightly outside their length limit... for 'normal' customers. It turns out the supplying company had negotiated a slightly different deal so the courier would carry the...

    Energy efficient light bulbs

This could be the reason the ring doorbell is so cheap. Almost an essential purchase for an Amazon customer. Got one on black friday and (although it has some issues) was £35 well spent.

    Energy efficient light bulbs

Amazon leave everything on the doorstep without ringing. I'm lucky if I get there in time for a quick wave as he's getting back in the van. I think once they've made a few successful deliveries somewhere new they stop caring (or they have some algorithm that figures out whether they need to...

    Energy efficient light bulbs

Whatever you do don't buy anything expensive. Paying for what you might assume would be quality is pointless. Philips have been failing on me left right and center both for GU10 and Bayonet types. I have been doing a lot better lately with: Bedside lamps: LVWIT E14...

    What have you bought today?

If you don't need the rollover Lebara via uswitch is a pretty good deal, I just bought one of those for my daughter last week https://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/sim-only-deal/5f30358313bb4c902142a15193b539218a27db87/?position=6&list=compare%2Fsim-only-deals&page=compare%2Fsim-only-deals& £2/month...

    What have you bought today?

Don't talk to me about Dyson... This bit of plastic snapped off my V11 and I wouldn't be surprised if it's a common fault. So I had to drop 8 quid on a new bin runner https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Y3YZP6M

Why smart thermostats don't always save you money

One very good reason to buy an OpenTherm boiler, and not the POS Vaillant that I have. Yeah, I know you can buy a conversion module (that is never in stock anywhere), but why should I? Should be made illegal to sell such boilers with all the green initiatives these days.

Why smart thermostats don't always save you money

Black Friday was one of the reasons to look at this today. I did one of those online energy assessments where they ask you all kinds of things about your house and then they tell you roughly what different things will cost you and how much you might make back off it. One of the things they...

Why smart thermostats don't always save you money

I'm just curious are those wiser TRVs compatible with the Drayton TRV4s I've fitted, e.g. can I just remove the head part and screw these down instead or is more work needed (e.g. draining the system)? Sorry if this is a dumb question.

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

Not yet! I haven't bought anything from them. In fact at these prices I prefer to make steel tube work, which is far cheaper. There are just more challenges in working with it. You've lost me here. I don't understand what these numbers mean. That's making about... erm... 15 of the things...

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

Thanks bodge for trying to answer my question with a link/company recommendation. This was what I was hoping for when I started this thread. Unfortunately, yeah, I knew about them, and they certainly do what I want, but several places will undercut them for tubes, even Scaffolding Direct...

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

I will cut and drill them. I really don't see what the issue is. If I want to drill them that's surely my choice, and the longevity will be affected by the choices I make to some extent, and it's down to me to mitigate that. All part of the design. Just as when you get galv roofing sheet...

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

Since I already gave you a link, any arguments about whether something should or shouldn't exist are surely irrelevant at this point?

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

Sounds like a custom job, and something that's going to be £££. I will give them a try but I don't hold out much hope over someone who just supplies mass-produced angle. A quick check of past invoice from around the same time reveals: May 8th 2019: 8ft Galvanised Scaffold Tube 10...

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

It wasn't hard to find cheaper, at least for their corrugated sheet. They charge double what I paid for my last batch, admittedly that was back in 2020 (prices could have changed). They don't mention angle steel on the site however, and seem like a roofing specialist.

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

Yeah, OK that's fair. I'm not planning on buying on a regular basis, this would be a one-off. Every time I've needed to ask anyone for a quote on steel supply their quote has been higher than what others are giving on their sites. The saying goes: If you have to ask the price, it's probably...

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

Nothing in particular, this is just a good size for general projects. I'm going off timber a bit. It's been my material of choice over the last 10 years, but I'm starting to see some benefits to using (galv.) steel instead. Wickes timber prices seem to keep going up as well, and steel isn't...

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

Not sure that applies here. I once got a quote for some metalwork, the delivery was extortionate, so I asked a local firm to tell me the price for the same thing, thinking I could then pick it up. I asked them to match the other price with delivery on top, thinking I'd at least do my bit for...

    Galvanised angle steel, 40mm x 40mm 3mm thickness.

No, I meant two bits of steel 40mm x 3mm x-section joined together into an angle. 40 x 3 = 120mm2. Two of them to make 240mm2 Ignoring the .3mm the radius of the outer is 24, the radius of the inner is 20, not 22. Your calc is for 2mm wall thickness. Sure but I don't want 2mm, and I don't...
