    2 flexi connections from meter

Two flexes a problem only because if you tip the meter up and lie it on its back it will register slowly. We were told when replacing meters at BG in the 80,s we MUST renew the outlet if on a flex. However I am now coming across meters replaced two years ago and on two flexes, why ?

    My home never gets warm

Dont matter how big the boiler is if it has not been gas rated with a pressure gauge. How do you know the output or input without gas rating. First step surely.

    Combi Problem

A.M.D.G. Well Gary67. The lemon shape looks like a shock arrestor or mini expantion vessel that takes up sudden pressure shocks if the hot tap is closed fast, they are rarely fitted on boilers these days. I,m sure you can do what you bloody well want in your own house, its your life. I've worked...

    uNDERSTANDING THE PUMP OVER-RUN

As a rule there is a permanent live to the boiler, a switched live to the boiler, and a live out to the pump. This seems to confuse most people. I am currently rewiring the work of a heating engineer and an electrician who seem to be a bit Laurel and Hardy at pump over runs.

    dodgy pcb`s

had just the same fault on a 28i junior. melted fan pressure switch and tee piece. replaced both and just about to pack up and go when the burner lit with NO demand for heat or water, and the fan not running. it was the pcb, but a scary fault.

    Diaphragm for a Worcester CDi24

I have fitted both the divertor and the diphraghm but the whole valve change is easier and you never know if it will leak until you fill back up. I live one mile from gas appliance spares here in Preston and they really do a great job, and know their stuff. Needed a gas valve for a Baxi solo...

How do BG make new boilers "safer"?

Just been on British gas web site house.co.uk and seen the offer for £300 of a boiler. It says, and I quote, "We take the best A rated condensing boilers and then make them safer and more energy efficient". If this is so does this mean the boilers they badge up as their own were unsafe or less...

    British Gas trainees and wages

This makes interesting reading. I wish I could tell you the right thing to do. I started at BG in 1978 and took VR in 97 with a 23K pay off to go and work for myself. Never looked back as I don't work Fridays or weekends, make a decent living and enjoy work far more. I was taught to repair...

    part diy install

My brother who is in the same trade did it ONCE for a bloke with a hob he had bought and fitted himself. When the hob got scratched he called Comet for a repair under warranty, they said not covered as customer abuse, he rips the hob out while still connected to the gas to get transco to say...

    BAXI 105HE CONDENSING BOILER

You will have to check the blow off pipe is not passing water to outside. It is a 15mm pipe that should run from the bottom of the boiler to outside. It may be passing water due to a stuck valve not shut properly or loss of expantion vessel pressure.

    boiler recommendation?

I would reccommend a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28i or 30si dependant on demand for hot water. The 30si gives a bit more hot water. Many istallers like Baxis but I find them simply too heavy for me as I work alone. But saying that I have a Potterton Promax 33 HE in my house free from Baxi and it...

In the wake of the Corgi Cowboy

Why did he not suggest splitting the system into two, or three seperate systems each with a combi. O. K. you will have to buy two boilers at £800 each and maybe more pipework but no hastle with air as they are sealed systems. One on the top floor and one on the ground floor.

    How much PTFE?

You ned to find out "where the joint is made", and put the ptfe there. Most people slap it all over to no avail. British Gas technical bullitin used to specify ELEVEN turns of PTFE on a threaded joint. They used to employ people to work out a spec for everything.
