    Fitting a Vertical Radiator

It appears that you may be correct with these particular fittings as I had to cut the pipes and fit new runs to the rad, ah well never mind, easy enough done. However........ My mam and dads system is pressurised so I thought to minimise the amount of water spraying all over the place when I...

    Fitting a Vertical Radiator

Thanks again guys for the replies, it's appreciated. Anyway, I've got another problem now  The existing pipework to the old rad was made with copper push-fit and seeing as I had the removal tool I thought "no problem" - how wrong I was  The new fittings I've bought are conex...

    Fitting a Vertical Radiator

Thanks for the replies guys and sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I'll take it that the fitted plug and vent are the top and install it that way. One last thing, would you recommend the flow entering the rad at the opposite side to the vent ? Just something else I've seen written...

    Fitting a Vertical Radiator

Hi all. My Mam & Dad have bought a 1500mm High by 413mm Wide vertical radiator that they want me to fit for them. Seems simple enough but after looking online for stuff related to these rads, it seems that it is possible to fit them incorrectly. The rad is a Reina Neva single and it...

    Switch availability question

I really like the look of those switches securespark, they would be great. I'll have to have a look at the light switch rear because they look identical to the one that is present. I seem to remember that the jacuzzi pump was a ¾ hp model (but I'll check first) which is about 750W. With it...

    Switch availability question

Hi, just wondered if anybody knows if there are any manufacturers out there who make a two-gang double-pole switch plate ? The reason I ask is that I am replacing a sheet of damaged plasterboard in between the kitchen and the bathroom and currently the jacuzzi pump has the isolator switch...

    catenary wire

Try finding a friendly BT Installer and see if you can "borrow" a couple of Eyebolt 1A's, a couple of Clamps Dropwire and a suitable length of Dropwire No 10. That will hold a good old weight before causing any problems. All you will need is an 8mm masonry bit for the eyebolts and a 10mm open...

    Ideal Optia HE12 Drain Problems

Thanks very much for all your replies guys, much appreciated. It appears to be working OK for now so I'll leave it well alone. I might just get rid of the u-bend come the summertime. Once again thanks

    Ideal Optia HE12 Drain Problems

Hi Tony, thanks for the reply. In the Boiler instructions, it says a minimum of 75mm. The pipe actually comes straight down out of the boiler about 9" then forms a u-bend about 4-1/2" deep before going straight through the wall and directly into the soil waste. Only about 2" of pipe is exposed...

    Ideal Optia HE12 Drain Problems

Thanks for the reply plummerman. To be honest, I didn't really want to be fiddling inside the boiler, it's just that with money being tight at the moment and the layout diagram of the boiler looking reasonably straight-forward I would have had a go myself. So even though the Manufacturers...

    Ideal Optia HE12 Drain Problems

Thanks for the reply shambolic but I'm not sure what you mean ? The drain pipe runs out of the boiler, makes a u-bend shape about 4" deep, ( this seems to agree with the instructions in the fitting manual the installer left ) then exits out the wall of the house and into the drain. I've...

    Ideal Optia HE12 Drain Problems

Hi, boiler as above. The condensate drain doesn't appear to be working correctly. The boiler will run for a while, then switches the gas off. After a bit of fault-finding, it appeared that the pressure switch was causing the problem. However, I noticed that the condensate syphon was absolutely...

    Just interested really.

Well, that does make sense I reckon. The Earth Cable between the cabinets is 6491x stuff but the Door Bonds have much more strands in them, making them a lot more flexible. I forgot to add that the dslam cabinet is fed via a 25mm split conc cable, then via 25mm tails to the meter and finally...

    Just interested really.

Hi guys, just wondered if anyone can explain this, or indeed if there's anything to explain ! We are presently wiring telemetry lines up for BT at their new Roadside DSLAM cabinets, basically consisting of a 5pr comms cable between the new dslam cabinet and the existing PCP cabinet. Part...

    Are all professionals, professional?

I'm a cable jointer working on the BT contract and some of the stuff I see (even brand-new work ) makes me realise why BT have so many auditors following us up :( But you cannot tell the people responsible for the bad workmanship anything, the usual response is "it's just the BT Auditors...

    Reasons not to steal cables

Yup another drain on the nhs, then there's the prison system as well - if he gets prosecuted of course  At least disposing of a body would have cost the taxpayer less.

I now have a new found respect for.......

Well, the lads did knock on every house before they cut the cable to explain what was going to happen and asked people to turn off all the electrical gear in their houses apart from maybe one light so they would know when the mains was connected again. Obviously no-one took any notice
