Okay ive got a 4 bed house that's been completely re-plastered and I'm behind schedule so looking for tips for the decorating phase. I've got new pre-primed skirtings going on throughout, old door frames with many layers of old gloss, a bunch of radiators and acres of fresh plaster. I'm...

Water Seal is the product rubbish, or is it something I did?

I can't make a recommendation but I've also used water seal on some repaired concrete sills, these also ended up cracking due to frost so I question how good that product might be.

Unventilated cold flat roof - insulation

Surely the condensation point is the underside of the board and not actually the felt? How big are these 'tiny gaps' for you to be able to actually see the felt? I'm suspecting a leaky roof to be honest, and the boards are likely ply so any water ingress will find a join to show up long before...

    Can I remove these bricks?

The coving is only in this part of the house and isn't original so I'm happy to remove it, will then over-board the area in 9mm plasterboard and skim it, the Trunking is actually hiding 8mm microbore pipe work, house currently has no rads/boiler and is undergoing a full re-wire, should be safe...

    Can I remove these bricks?

The PVC door is in the main front wall, there's no porch. The frame you see there is 4x2" and had a single glazed door in it. Incidentally a window fitter who came to the house today commented saying the gap between the bricks was because the frame that's there isn't the original one, and that...

    Can I remove these bricks?

I'm renovating an old terraced house and removed a door frame about 1.5m in from the front door (it was kind of a porch area with original tiled floor) to open up the hallway. I expected to see a timber lintel above the frame but it turns out its about 3 courses of bricks instead (which are...

    Dispute over land??

Thanks for the help. I'm going to get hold of said document tomorrow and see what's there, I think you're right and the decision will be heavily based on how clearly a right of way is stated. I'll post back when I know more and hopefully it'll shed some light on it, thanks again

    Dispute over land??

Actually you sort of do... My solicitor has submitted an application for right of way over the land as it was mentioned in a 'pre-registration document'

    Dispute over land??

Hi I've bought a house and my details are being filed with the land registry, and I have a right if way issue. There's a piece of land behind the house (and 3 neighbouring properties) which is used for access to garages or through a gate into the garden for off road parking. One of the...

    French doors

Thanks for the info. I think I'll remove the window and drop the wall ready for the doors then get a company to supply and fit them. That way I'll get the fensa cert that I need. As for the other windows I guess I'll have to just pay for a building inspector to check them all out.

    French doors

i was under the impression that not only did the glass need to be to a certain spec (toughened and certain U-value) but it needed fitting so as not to be draughty etc... well thanks for clearing that up. The house has had some windows fitted in 2008 but have no fensa certificate, can i get...

    French doors

Hi im renovating a house and theres a window (i measured 176cm wide from wall to wall) that i would like to replace with french doors. Ive got a couple of queries: 1) Ive had a google around and it seems that 1790mm is a standard width, so would i need to widen the gap to allow for doors? or...

    Electrical gremlins...

The ceiling rose before the bathroom is fine, no signs of arcing and all the connections are neat and tidy. I went to check the one above the bathroom and found that the 3 spotlights above dont look like they should be over a bathroom (altho i could be wrong) and are 12v. What do I check now...
