Thanks big-all As per my original post these are dotted all around the house. Literally all around it. Each one measures about 15cm across. Not a bad suggestion but extremely unlikely.

Hi Mottie. Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds reasonable. On either side of the thing there is clearly some hole. Any other takers on what these could be or do we think wall cavity ventilation is the most likely?
