MANY thanks to you all! xx Vents (at the top?) do not appear to be blocked..and area around heater is clear. I asked him again if he'd put a towel over it at some time :roll: he assures me no....and that he'd also told his lodger not to...but..well... :wink: boys will be boys eh? :lol...

Update on my last update :roll: I went over and had a go at it myself :wink: ..as no..it hadn't heated up. I undid the screws etc and using a small screwdriver kept pushing the said metal strip down...and it kept popping straight back up. EVENTUALLY it made a 'click' noise WOOOOO HOOO...

:wink: I mean the actual switch to the storage heater ROFL!! I'd nipped in to pick up his electricty bill lunch time...and there is a switch that must be kept 'on' at all times that had 'lit up'...it kicks in at 2 in afternoon for the boost....then goes off again until ..prrf...

Ok.... :wink: I rung electricity company and asked WHAT tariff he was on....she said.... She said yes..it was better than Economy 7...I asked about Economy 10 (just because he'd been advised by an ex-employee of the same electricity company) and she said something about he'd have to have new...

Just rung him....he thinks it is Economy 7...(someone told him to try and change to Economy 10?..((shrug))..they worked for electricity board at one time and said it was cheaper still - anybody know this?). He is fitting all covers back and turning it on from switch on wall outside bathroom...

Yes...I'm sure he would. Best to wait until the w.end and see if he can come and check this first? Or do you think it might be ok to put the switch down..and see if it heats up?

The plot thickens :wink: Talked son through it..and just rung him again. He has got the diagram up on his pc of page 4 of the PDF. He says yes...his is EXACTLY the same..but the other way round (shrug)...but he says there doesn't seem to be anything to keep it down once he pushes that...

Update so far! Continuing saga of storage heater! Have talked this over to son via phone! Yes...he could see that the right hand lever thingie was up! He eventually found a screwdriver :roll: and took the metal cover thing off.. I told him to GENTLY push the lever back down again...but...

:oops: sorry..you're talking to a complete electrical nerd here! I looked at page 4 and the diagram on how to reset....but can't seem to 'see' anything that looks like that on the storage heater! Would it be, once the cover is taken off...on the top or bottom?

:wink: Aha!!! So...should it be at the TOP then....? I could only make this out...just looked like a connector for innie/outtie wires!?

Is it possible to replace yourself..or would I need an electrician to do this? I couldn't see a button to click like 123 suggested. Any idea where it may be?

:roll: Just got back from his house...and taken some pics. The bathroom is a 'wet room'..and I refuse to scrub his floor any more :evil: so please excuse the state of it :lol: The rest have all been replaced with this type...

:? no - don't think so - whenever I call in they're in a pile on the floor underneath the sink! :roll: Is there a 'cut off' switch then that could happen if the vents are covered?

:shock: re asbestos! This isn't as old as the ones he has replaced. I'll see if I can contact him for the name of it..or better still get a photo of it that I can post on here. Many thanks for your prompt reply! :wink:

Sons storage heater in his bathroom has stopped working. Power IS getting to the storage heater as its been tested. Any idea if this is a big problem and the storage heater would have to be replaced..or something minor that an electrician could fix? Many thanks.
