    Phantom Current?

Hadn't thought of that. I haven't inspected the back of the RCD/Main breaker and I guess its possible that something is wired to it such that it stays on when the main breaker is off. Although what could be drawing that kind of power without me being aware of it is a mystery. I'll take a...

    Phantom Current?

The daft thing is that the bills are correct for a continuous draw of 8.5amps so it looks to me like that current is being drawn, I just can't understand where from. Is it possible for an RCD to sink 1500watts without heating up? I'd find it difficult to beleive. Is it possible that where...

Cool, glad you got it sorted. Technically your spot on, although the TCPIP model never formalised the concept of layers, that was done by the OSI. In fact TCP/IP does conform to the OSI model, or should I say the OSI model was designed to encompass the TCP/IP structure , as it came first, by...

    what kit do i need

Your right, DSL routers, network switches, wireless access points and DSL modems are all different things. You can buy devices which do all of them but you do need to check the small print. Many "DSL routers" Have nothing whatever to do with DSL as they do not contain a modem. Check that...

    PXE problem

I believe its trying to network boot before booting from the harddisk, if memory serves. Go into the bios and look for anything related to network booting, probably it'll be in the list of boot devices somewhere.

    Phantom Current?

I metered the live as the neutral is earth bonded, which as I understand it means that it stays at 0v PD with reference to earth while the live swings between +-230. Well +-320v actually as 240v is the RMS value. I guess there must still be current running through it, but I prefer to meter...

    Intel powered macs

What planet do you live on? Or do you work for Intel? In marketing prehaps? For the past 5 years the AMD CPU's have given more power per pound than Intel, and for anyone who can't afford to spend as much on their CPU as the rest of their system, that is kind of the point. I have 4 PC's that are...

A switch is the same as a bridge, which tracks which devices are on which ports and only forwards data frames to the relevant port. A hub is a multiport repeater which simply blindly retransmits all data in one port out of all the other ports. Unles you understand the concepts in the OSI 7 layer...
