1903 property, plastering large cubboard, which technique best

Ive been reading on this stuff recently I'm no expert but it's pretty clear the Rule of thumb Is whereever there is a solid external wall use the vapour permeable materials such as lime, it does make a difference if the external wall is rendered in cement also as youll trap the moisture inside...

What Mattress Do You Swear By?

I swear by my cheap memory foam orthopaedic mattress I've had for 5 years, it's got abit softer or most likely I've got heavier lol, but it's generally very firm and supportive, i think its 4inch memory and 7 inch foam. Spent about £110 for a double from ebay, so just some really bog standard...

    Balanced flu on mid terrace

Thanks for the detailed post, the house has no radon measures but the air brick has been covered so that's not helping, I havnt moved in yet but thats my first point of call. I can see what you mean I think it sounds like in a way the chimney acts similar to a radon sump, and as long as fresh...

    Balanced flu on mid terrace

Thanks guys, yeah my worry was creating negative pressure like you stated with the chimney drawing radon gas from the subfloor, where radon would/could be highier in cold conditions. I am in a higher radon area but It's all abit pie in the sky as I'm yet to have a radon test, but I would like...

    Balanced flu on mid terrace

Hey guys, I have a mid terrace property and wanted a gas fire inset, I've heard conventional chimneys can increase radon levels and wondered if any solutions exist to convert a conventional chimney into a vertical balanced flu. In my head this sounds abit impossible/ impractical but wondered...

DPC bridged by render and raised ground (ed.)

I found out the interior walls were cream injected and had damp proof plaster. Without the company doing anything about the bridging render or drive levels... actually quite disgusting these companies get away with this. Does anybody know if you could render lime internally and keep concrete...

Cheers might be abit thick but it's an option, need too see how damp it is, not sure you can use the hemp with a damp wall I wonder if theres a RH moisture limit.

Drying time before redecoration of damp wall

I'm no expert and take what I say with a grain of salt but make sure you find the source of damp before you do anything, as adding cement render over the top of the problem will just make it come back again as it will trap in the moisture. Check the ground levels outside, look for leaks etc not...

DPC bridged by render and raised ground (ed.)

I was thinking over the porch side damp, and theres a drain on the far side wall of the porch that has a square cut out from it for a downpipe and looks like that area is thinner than the rest of the external wall rendered in concrete. Its unlikly I can remove the concrete as it's on my...

DPC bridged by render and raised ground (ed.)

That's reassuring lol. Crazy the difference in house prices and how far the money goes, not very haha. Im pretty confident most of the issues is due too a lot of the issues bonnie mentioned, just too much moisture hopfully the air brick being cleared, using the correct breathable materials and...

DPC bridged by render and raised ground (ed.)

Thanks for the reply this is pretty much what I had come to aswell. It's going to be a nightmare fixing the porch wall as it's the neighbours driveway thats too high and butted against it but hopefully they'll be understanding. Thanks again, I'll post back if I ever fix it, got to move in first :p
