    lights in a swimming pool

I agree. Surely it's a job for a professional photographer, with all the gear, not for a DIY electrician. For a couple of hundred quid or so get an experienced professional who can produce the results you want, first time, no problem.

Paint - Peeled off like Wallpaper

We've just had this. We were told it would be OK to emulsion "3 to 4 days" after plasterer had finished. Was it chuff. Three weeks later the plaster was still drying. Our lovely paintwork ended up all green and mouldy looking. Plaster drying time (obviously) depends on how dry the...

    Stupid DIYer

O well, At least it's not just me that does that, then. I just bought an expensive stainless steel garden fork only to find I already had a perfectly good one in the shed. It's the tools you seldom use that you forget you own.

    What wire goes where???

Aged about nine I touched the element of an electric fire before it got hot. I was amazed to experience a jolt right up my arm. I got loads of shocks as a curious kid - never did me any harm. I once put a plug into a 13 amp socket, romoved the unscrewed cover and touched the exposed pins...

    2 amp sockets

Both electric showers I have owned previously failed disastrously with water flowing out of the shower body/control unit. That's a 100% failure rate. I got out of there fast, I can tell you. The first was a Triton T30, the second a Triton T60. Both were old. Both were installed by...

    2 amp sockets

The CU has a large MK symbol embossed top left corner and a label that reads MK Sentry Consumer Unit bottom right so I guess that makes it an MK unit. Ban I hear what your saying about kettles and immersion heaters being OK, but I don't stand naked under a kettle. Also we have a massive...

    2 amp sockets

I couldn't resist the temptation to press the test button last night - everything went dark, and the mains switch went off, so I assume that it is working OK. Now I know I will press it every few months. Is a CHINT MCB a bad thing ? Spark123 didn't seem too impressed with it...

    2 amp sockets

The main switch says "MK RCD LN6400s 100A/100mA time delay BSEN61005 Push to Test" The CHINT RCD says "NBI - 63 B32 CE 230/400v IEC 60898 6000A" The hand written label underneath it says "shower".

    2 amp sockets

Thankyou BJS Spark and John D - that is what I thought. You can use 2A sockets on a 5A circuit, as long as you don't overload them, but ideally you should fit 5A sockets. This would be better really, as then the lamps would be interchangeable between rooms, which they are not at present. I...

    2 amp sockets

Right, well, I have looked in the fuse box, and we have two switches labelled "lights". The one on the right turns off all the downstairs lights, no problem. The one on the left switches off all the upstairs lights, plus the 2A and 5A lighting sockets downstairs. So I guess that means the 2...

    2 amp sockets

Thank you all. I'd better go off and check the fuse box. I thought, because the sockets are that tiny size (only 2 amp plugs will fit them) it must be fused 2 amp. I can see it is dangerous to assume anything in the world of (old) home electrics !

    2 amp sockets

"Posh and Modern" :) These 2 amp sockets look pretty old. 1970s, I'd say !

    2 amp sockets

Thankyou. I'll take a photo of the consumer unit (I assume that's the box with all the switches in it ?) We do have normal 13 amp sockets everywhere in the cottage, including in the lounge, where the 2 amp sockets are. John Assuming it is a 2 amp circuit, is it ok to have 3 amp and 5 amp...

    2 amp sockets

I have just bought an old cottage. It has 3 round pin switched 2 amp sockets in the lounge which I assume are operated from the light switches. There are no other lights in the room, so we need to get these working. Strangely, the study has 5 amp round pin sockets, which are slightly...
