    uPVC door leaking into house

You need to provide more pictures. In the meantime, get a butterknife, stick in between the door and the frame gasket, if it goes in without touching, or there is little resistance then the door is not being pulled in tight enough. You will need to adjust the door cams with a hex, and also...

    foam sealing vs gap

Thanks. Do you know if the new builds were foamed before or after the fixings ? I would imagine if the door is properly secured with fixings before the foaming that bowing would be practically non existent.

    foam sealing vs gap

How many of such occurrences have you observed ? and were you the one doing the foaming ?

    High temp heat pumps??

Have you had any experiences with energy suppliers ? I've heard this too but not seen it in action and the fall out. It's doing a lot of damage to the industry.

Alas the company is defunct and the unit is 13 years old.

    High temp heat pumps??

75c is too hot and will be very expensive to run. Anything below ~3.5 (350% efficiency) is not a good idea. HPs are more than 100% efficient, they can go up to 600-700%. What that means is 1kW in -> 7kW out. The lower you can get the water temp, the higher your COP. So you can save a lot if done...

    High temp heat pumps??

Heatpumps are not a good idea if you don't have an insulated, warm house. Primarily because they need to run below 55c - usually 30-40c to gain maximum efficiency and keep the COP above 3.5. Why 3.5 ? because electricity costs that much more than gas. If you run it at higher temps you will end...

Microbore central heating issues - cold and uneven radiators

DIsconnect each rad, take outside flush with water till clean and remount. Make sure you flush from all holes (bottom and top) to get a good clean. Once all rads are clean, get the plumber to do a powerflush and see how that goes. You might be able to get away with it if your system it gunked up.

    foam sealing vs gap

Thanks for the responses. Is there any difference between low/high expansion foam ? The foam expands in the direction of least resistance so I've never understood those who are averse to using the high expansion stuff.

    Frameless roof light

Does anyone have any experience with frameless roof lights ? The types where the glass is glued on ? I want to get a 750mm x 750mm triple glazed unit and install in place of a polyester dome. The unit will be quite heavy (30-40kg), but am worried about it blowing off if we have severe winds.

Microbore central heating issues - cold and uneven radiators

You're not going to get decent flow from that kind of pipework. As Andy stated, 22mm main run and 15mm runs to each rad.

    foam sealing vs gap

Is there any practise around using foam when installing doors/windows ? Historically, that space was left as is to allow for expansion and contraction. However, in this age that just seems irresponsible especially when it comes to efficiency and heat retention. Expansion foam is the obvious...

Filling up soil stack vent with insulation

I have a soil stack vent that goes from the bathroom and is vented outside the roof space. It is boxed in with the timber/plasterboard. The issue is it is unsealed in the attocso the whole section is internally ventilated. This also causes the 1st floor joists to be draughty and air to escape...

    Flat roof, EPDM vs Felt

Its more niche so it is more pricey. Your best bet is to educate yourself about the various systems, how they are done properly and then run it against the roofer to gauge his knowledge and whether he is corner cutting. Or you can pretend you know your stuff and specify what you want done. You...

Penetrating Damp on top of bay window

Re-pointing may do the trick. Mortar is an issue since it does give eventually and water will seep through the tiniest of cracks. Your best bet would be to replace the mortar with a lead flashing sealant and then take it from there. I'm afraid there is no quick fix with these types of problems...
