    Loud cold water

I too find the comment about plastic joins strange. I would have thought that plastic pipe would surpress any rushing noise due to the more absorbent sound properties of plastic. Sound travels and reverberates much easier down copper pipes.

Unvented, do I need new hot/cold water piping?

The cold water inlet is black plastic. Blinking tough plastic I seem to remember. I think it may have had a metal inner too. Oh dear, sounds like there could a few issues then. Waterboard to run a 25mm from main pipe? Does that mean I'll have the pressure but not the flow rate?

Unvented, do I need new hot/cold water piping?

Cheers gas4you. I know for sure that the incoming mains is an old imperial size around 20mm as I had to move up the stop cock for another project. Its not 25mm thats for sure. Will this be a problem? As for the power shower, I was told I couldnt have this with a mains pressure hot water...

Unvented, do I need new hot/cold water piping?

Hi All, I currently have a vented hot water system. I'm getting quotes for unvented, mains pressure. What modifications in terms of hot/cold water pipework changes within the house will be needed so that the shower will not be affected when someone else flushes the toilet, washes their...

    An Idea of costs

Agile is there any evidence that copper is in fact better than plastic? I'm not a plumber, but I can see the advantages with plastic - no creaking in floor voids and no water noise. Is it a lifetime issue?

Very High Gas Bill - Using a Baxi Boiler

Sounds like the 3 port valve isnt working correctly or is stuck. Probably due to motor failure. This used to happen to my system. £15 new motor.

Shall I convert vented to unvented?

The cold water supply around the house is currently 15mm. This gets reduced from the 25mm cold coming into the house. Could this explain the cold water "noise" when anyone uses a cold water tap or toilet refills etc? Would a self employed plumber be a better option than a company? How much...

Shall I convert vented to unvented?

Before this post gets bogged down with Y-plans....... £3.5k seems a lot to spend. Is this viable? Or do I keep my existing vented? Would I also need a separate feed for any normal mixer shower so that I dont get scalded when the wife turns the cold tap on?

Shall I convert vented to unvented?

The boiler is a Baxi Solo, about 5 years old. The estimate that I have had assumes the current boiler will be used. What about the estimate? Is that about right, I know its hard without seeing site. What do you mean about wishing to retain the Y-Plan? Sorry you've lost me.

Shall I convert vented to unvented?

I have a fairly typical vented central heating system with F&E tank in loft, and indirect HW cylinder which has a 42 gallon cold water tank in the loft. The hot water cylinder, CH pump and 3 way valve are in the airing cupboard on the landing. The boiler is in the garage (which in...

    is it a wetroom?

Stand over the drain in the wetroom and pour of big bucket of cold water over yourself and see if it drains away. You may have to run out to the drain inspection cover outside (whilst dripping with water) to see if the water is indeed going to the drain.

    is it a wetroom?

Sounds like it. Why else would you put a drain in the middle of the floor?

    Location of F&E tank

Well it doesnt have a close fitting top thats for sure. It should have inhibitor in. Last time it was touched was when I had the boiler moved in the garage a year or so ago. Before that a thin layer of light rubbery gunge would appear, but this time is really thick and smelly! Maybe they...
