    Extending a drainpipe shoe

Hi all, recently had a new driveway and drain installed. I have noticed however that the drainpipe shoe does not quite reach the drain. So when it rains half goes down the drain and half down the back. I can't find a shoe with a wider reach. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? Picture...

What is between brick and plaster?

Hi all, bought my house a while back and when I moved in there was a damp patch around one of the windows and damaged plaster in the area. The source of the damp has been fixed and windows replaced. The damp has not come back since. Anyway some of the plaster sounded hollow. I pulled it with...

Advise on beefing up the loft floor

Hi all, looking for a bit of advise and hoping someone can help. My loft has been boarded out by the previous owner and they don't seem to have done a good job of it. The joists are 3 x 2 and when I walk in there I can feel it flex and the ceilings below have cracked. I only plan on using this...

Removing water seal from a wall..

According to the Thompsons website you can't. I think it will peel off? https://www.thompsonsweatherproofing.co.uk/faqs/ "No. The hydrophobic properties of Water Seal will negatively affect the adhesion of any paint applied over it."

Removing water seal from a wall..

I have an external wall that I had rendered and ready to be painted but never got around to. A little while back my dad sprayed it with Thompsons water seal while doing the rest of the house which means I can't paint it. Any ideas how to get it off so I can paint the wall? Thanks

There is one but it just plugs into the socket. It's unplugged most of the time and trips when not plugged in.

    Garage RCD keeps tripping

Hi sorry I'm not sure of exact terminology so here is a picture. The one in the middle labelled garage is what trips, this is located in the kitchen. There is nothing else in the garage other than a plug socket. I have looked inside the socket which seemed fine but replaced the face plate anyway.

    Garage RCD keeps tripping

Hi all, many months ago I had a hole in my garage roof that let in a lot of rain water, now fixed and dried out a long time ago. I'm not certain if related but ever since around that time the garage RCD circuit has been tripping. There is only one plug socket in there and it still happens when...

What sort of filler is this?

Bonding is usually quite hard though isn't it? This is slightly soft and can be compressed a bit.

What sort of filler is this?

I have had a recurring problem with a crack in the wall. I decided to strip it right back and came across this in the wall pictured below. It is dark grey and kind of spongy and can be cut with a stanley knife quite easily as seen by the marks on it. Maybe a finger wide. I cut a little piece...

    Mixing powder filler

I have filled it again but if it cracks again I'll take a pic. Since I've kept the sun off it / closed the curtains its not cracked again. I don't know how long it takes for filler to completely go off? @JohnD Yes I should probably have used something like that. I have a bag in the garage too...

    Mixing powder filler

Just another update if anyone has any advise. I've gone over it with a nice thick mix of Toupret TX110. The room is south facing and gets a lot of sunlight. I keep finding small hairline cracks in the exact spot the sun is beaming on it all day. I have tried filling in the cracks in the evening...

Filled in that one small crack and so far so good. Still giving it some more time before I paint though just in case.

Thanks for the replies. There is one small crack in it this morning. Still needs sanding though so I may see how it goes.

    Mixing powder filler

Hi all, I mixed up some powder filler yesterday to a thickish paste and used it. Just came across a video on YouTube and noticed people make their mixture way thicker. Is this going to have any adverse affects? Will it not not be as strong? Or does it not matter? I don't know wether to leave the...

    Filler keeps cracking

Hi, sorry I should have mentioned the source of the damp was repaired a while ago. There was a gap around the window frame, I have since had the windows replaced and the gap sealed. Which flexible filler do people recommend?

    Filler keeps cracking

Hi all, I had a large crack in the wall which I think was caused by damp around the window. Anyway I filled it and and painted over and it looked great. Week or so later and I've noticed hairline cracks form on the join of the filler / crack. Slapped a bit more filler over the top and gave it a...
