    Cooker fault tripped sockets??!??

No, nothing like that John. It's just the sockets MCB tripped the same time as the cooker. But switching the Sockets MCB on doesn't put voltage on the cooker circuit and vise versa.

    Cooker fault tripped sockets??!??

I agree. It was wired up by a profession sparks but I know that doesn't promise to be correct. I advised them to as I just fixed the cooker. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink!

    Cooker fault tripped sockets??!??

Hi John. I can't explain why the sockets went at the same time as the cooker. When I sorted out the wires, I put the sockets MCB on and volt checked the red and black on the cooker circuit. The reading was 0v

    Cooker fault tripped sockets??!??

That is weird. But I wouldn't keep flicking the MCB back on. There's probably a spectacular flash if it's the same problem as me. Just make sure your CU is off and take a look. But if you aren't good around electric, you are right, I'd get someone in!

    Cooker fault tripped sockets??!??

Right, well I'm still alive! To clear up the separate CUs. One is the original and when they had an extension a second CU was added and this newer one is where the cooker is and the sockets are still on the old one. Anyway, I visually checked the element on the cooker and it looked fine...

    Cooker fault tripped sockets??!??

No. Seperated CUs. I've found the snag. I'll update later on.

    Cooker fault tripped sockets??!??

Thanks john. I never took any notice if they were RCBOs. If anything the cooker might be but I would have thought the sockets weren't . I did notice RCDs but not 100% as I didn't have much time. I'll have a look when I get back and post again.

    Cooker fault tripped sockets??!??

Hi everyone, Just had a call from a relative to say cooker had blown so I nipped up there to find all the kitchen sockets had tripped as well. Turn cooker off on the unit and isolate on the wall switch, turn everything back on at the CU and fine. The minute you switch the cooker isolator...

How many sockets should a room have?

    Haha. I've changed my mind!!

How many sockets should a room have?

I hate extension leads and unsightly wires. 8 plugs, 8 cables running straight to the floor, then onwards to whatever it connects. Defo sockets for me!

How many sockets should a room have?

Anywhere you have an extension lead put sockets there instead. I don't reckon you can ever have too many. I put 4 doubles just behind to tv corner! Then I have 5 others around the living room behind furniture, curtains (floor hanging). Plus when It comes to Christmas you might want extras for...

    Switching the Neutral?!!?

Thanks for your reply John, The wiring is wrong on all fronts TBH. The feed into the light switch comes for a socket on the adjacent wall in the joining garage. No FCU just straight from the socket. t+e clipped to the wall.

    Switching the Neutral?!!?

Hi all, I've just been to my Nans to sort out a light switch that had fell off the wall (no back box, faceplate screwed straight into the wood which has now rotted). When I took the switch off to mount it in a PVC back box it looks like whoever wired it up has switched the neutrals through...

    Moulded back boxes?

Hi BOS. I've seen the ones with mini trunking but I might be mad but I quite like the look of conduit. If it's straight it all kind of looks neat. I'm not a fan of the mini trunking tbh.

    Moulded back boxes?

Hey all, Does anyone know if I can get moulded plastic back boxes that will accept 20/25mm plastic conduit? I was going to use metal clad for my garage but I don't really see the point as they won't be in any danger of getting knocked. But all the plastic back boxes I've seen and used...
