Combi boiler should give much better flow rates with a suitable thermostatic mixer shower ,than any instantaneous electric shower could. Pumps and combi boilers are not used together .

I wouldn't use one of that type of isolation valve ,better to have a full bore ,good quality,lever operated valve.

How old is your boiler ?

Couple of hundred quid most likely, probably more if you are in/ around London.

The plate heat exchanger is where the cold mains water is heated as it passes through on its way to hot water taps,it has no part in the central heating function.

I would suspect a blocked plate heat exchanger.

Could be a number of things including a blocked heat exchanger ,does it run for central heating , not that I expect you would have it on in this weather ?

You need an engineer to visit. What's the temperature of the water coming out the hot tap?

The heading of the thread tells us it's 40mm solvent weld pipe. You need to reduce that to 32mm, as already advised.

That is not a nut. The 4 segments need to be pushed inward,they are a bit like springs,and the solenoid pulls straight off.

You can't connect this directly to a 40mm waste pipe.

Probably worth asking a plumber to visit.

Does a magnet attract to it ? Can you see where any copper pipe joins to it and show us a picture of the joint ?

Yes ,you can buy a new solenoid. But first you need to establish the voltage at the showers main terminal block between live and neutral is 230/240 volts. The solenoids resistance can be checked with a multimeter to determine if that's at fault .

Either the shower unit is not getting a 230/240 volts supply ,or there is a fault within the shower ( possibly the solenoid). You would need an electrical testing instrument to determine which it is.

Boilers fitted on the ground floor very often have flow and return pipework run upwards ,and back down to ground floor rads , particularly when ground floors are concrete .

I wouldn't think so. Generally speaking ,pipe runs should be as short as possible ,but if it's not practical to take the direct route ,so be it.
