Where to install Shelly mini for bathroom towel rail

I have a Shelly 1 Mini Gen3 that I would like to use to make my electric towel rail smart I have an unswitched flex outlet in the bathroom itself and a fused spur with an indicator bulb outside. Can I install the Shelly in either? If I install the Shelly in the Fused spur then I can see the...

In-patio bed - Houston - did we think this through?

The exposed is compacted MOT. It's replacing an existing patio that had been there forever so should be fairly stable underneath. The idea is to dig out whatever MOT is needed without compromising the integrity of the new pavers Regards Tet

In-patio bed - Houston - did we think this through?

In a rush of ambition-over-practicality we saw, what we thought, looked like a really great idea to break up a large area of patio (see pics) with some grasses etc What I have now is a space in the patio (see pic) and no certain way to protect it after planting. My plan is to dig out a narrow...

How's your luck with Premium Bonds?

There's no need to be so patronising. In my opinion £230,000 is not a particularly small sample and a 1.17% result vs a 4.15% expectation seems very much like an outlier Regards Tet

How's your luck with Premium Bonds?

    Nope it's an annualised return based on a single month's win 225/230,000 is 0.00098 x 12 = 0.0117 =1.17% Regards Tet

Bathroom extractor that closes and seals out drafts?

Another vote for these - they look great and perform well in my experience. The humidistat version is really good for shower rooms. I did have to replace the humidistat module after 8 years, which isn't bad Regards Tet

    65mm plasterboard. Is this possible?

My 1914 reno would show exactly the same as you're seeing. It's almost certainly 50mm metal stud plus 12.5mm plasterboard plus a plaster skim - that would be your 65mm I haven't yet hung my TV but I'll likely be using really good plasterboard fixings and not bothering to bridge that 50mm void...

Washing machine drain hose siliconed into waste pipe. Why?

Washing machine drain hose siliconed into waste pipe. Why?

If you cut the pipe low down, fit the trap and use the cutoff then you're back at the same height. Why would it do what you're suggesting? Regards Tet

Washing machine drain hose siliconed into waste pipe. Why?

Personally I'd fit an s-trap and then you wont even need any extra pipe https://www.screwfix.com/p/mcalpine-sink-s-trap-white-40mm/64466 Regards Tet

    Sub-base for porcelain patio?

£20K rather depends on how large the area is. Mine is 150 sq m. I'm paying £4,300 for the slabs £450 for the slurry, £400 for 8 calender days digger hire £800 for Type1 (likely another £300-400) I'm paying a day rate for the labour - so far £3,600 with likely another £3K to come

    Securing overhead cable

Hi, I'm waiting on a date for UKPN to replace my existing overhead supply cable with a new 100A rated one. At present my supply is attached by a hook screwed to a piece of 6x2 propped up by scaffolding. (see pics) I would very much like to get rid of the scaffolding. I have a new timber-framed...

    Aerial and Cat6 and Freeview

I've had a quote (over over £700) from a local aerial installer to do the above or over £800 to effectively install the Humax PVR in the loft and then signal down digitally with an IR repeater Thanks for the advice all - suffice to say I will be installing an external aerial...... Regards Tet

    Aerial and Cat6 and Freeview

A little lack of planning on my part. I've nearly finished a refurb but I forgot about a new aerial I'm thinking of installing an aerial inside our new (slate roofed) loft but I failed to run an aerial cable. I did, however, remember to run Cat6 from the loft to my understairs where my router...

    BT Dropwire

The pole is a proper telegraph pole that carries electrical supply wires as well Each side of the pole is a circular hook about 3 feet down from the power cables to which the incoming supplies from the pole directly across the road (with a BT grey socket) are connected I'm sorry if I wasn't...

    BT Dropwire

I've had my upper floor demolished and rebuilt. This necessitated removal of incoming power and BT cable. Getting the power reconnected is WIP - at the moment it is being supported by a piece of scaffolding but UKPN owe me a new cable as part of the fuse upgrade I am entitled to. I would like...
