    Fixings into woodwool/cement slabs

I have fitted both in the past. The wood wool slab had galvanised tongue and groove top and bottom but we still installed 18mm ply over the top and fixed into the galv with self tappers. Then tyvek over the top and finally copper on top of that. Couldn't believe that they still use the stuff as...

Hi Tim, Yes I can quote if you would like me to? I'm a director of a spec list roofing company that only deals with zinc, copper and stainless steel. We have many references and all the correct insurances and training. We also installed the copper on the Handball Arena for the Olympics. My email...

Porch Roof on Bunglaow with Big Eaves

If you were to use a hard metal material you could have a pitched roof of a flat roof with velux roof lights. Having box gutters either side wouldn't be a problem and they could be in one length avoiding any weak points. The roof would last over 100 years and be maintenance free.

Hi, thanks for your enquiry. A ball park figure would be around £1000 but please bear in mind zinc would have a lifetime guarantee and probably outlast the building. This is also a zero maintenance option so would never need any upkeep. If you have any further questions please ask and I'll do my...

Cracked Glulam beam in new extension :-(

Plenty of measuring and marking should turn out well. I'd use a mag drill which you could hire and that would make an easy job of it. To understand the cracks you have to understand the stresses and load points and the effect it's having on the timber. I'm surprised threaded rod with nuts and...

    Flashing & Soakers

Right I'm definitely going to do it! I can make whatever size, shape and angle you require. I think I may even start my own small supply website as well because by the sound of things they haven't got a clue.

    Flashing & Soakers

Maybe I should start supplying soakers made to order? We use stainless steel which will last hundreds of years and they're not worth stealing so won't be attractive to thieves. I could supply zinc soakers which would be slightly cheaper. In my experience I always make my soakers as big as...

Flat roof leak, dormer style house

It always difficult to vent dormers as there is no obvious top vent. Your best bet would be a warm roof contstruction. Have you looked into zinc as a roof covering?

    insulating a flat roof internally

Condensation occurs because the warm, moist air is meeting a cold surface. You need to stop the warm air getting to the cold surface, this can be done one of two ways. 1. Install a vapour barrier to stop the warm air penetrating the ceiling and getting to the cold roof or 2. Venting the roof...

garage conversion and the flat roof

As I see it the most important part of a warm roof is an adequate vapour barrier which stops the moist warm air getting to the timber within the roof space and causing rot. If you completely fill the space with insulation then you need an air tight layer on the underside before the plaster...

Leaking 15 degree roof with Velux windows and Sandtoft 20/20

Even the roofs shown on the sandtoft website aren't 15 degrees! Installing a product on its limit is an unecessary risk. We don't install zinc on its limit it wouldn't be good practise.

Leaking 15 degree roof with Velux windows and Sandtoft 20/20

Velux roof lights are guaranteed down to 15 degrees so is it best practise to fit them on there limit.......No. I'm sure the roof structure can fluctuate by half a degree here and there meaning the roof lights are no longer guaranteed. I bleat on about hard metals because it's a long term...
