No hot water after bleeding CH pump

OK an update. Everything had cooled down so fired it up again. None of the pipes get warm at all, except where they are close to the flue. So possibly this means that the problem isn't an airlock in the cylinder coil or thereabouts. Pipes were pretty hot earlier but this may have been due...

    please can anyone help

Exactly the same as my problem, see here: http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=108402&highlight= By the way I am in no way experienced, but from what you describe it sounds like you have an airlock around the pump and need to bleed it.

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

Thanks will give it another go tomorrow. As long as the system is cold I assume there is nothing wrong with loosening the fitting on the inlet side of the pump? Finally, if this still fails, would my suggestion of draining the system and refilling whilst the valve is set to manual be worth...

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

I cracked the same nut as yesterday on the outflow side of the pump and didn't get any air, just water dripping. (didn't undo it very much but still, air would escape before water would it not?) Radiators and pipes either side of the pump remain cold. When I first got in this afternoon, I...

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

Reading the above comment, would draining the system again and then refilling whilst setting the valve to manual help to avoid an airlock developing in the cylinder coil? British Gas can come out under our Homecare agreement by Friday but I'd rather get it working myself rather than have them...

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

Balls...think the CH pump needs bleeding again as radiators have got lukewarm but not hot, and pump casing has got much hotter than surrounding pipes. Also pump is making the same trickling noise as it did yesterday before I bled it.

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

hmmmm...chickened out on that one. Only 'spanner' I have big enough is a monkey wrench and that is struggling to fit. Plus there is virtually no room behind there...might have to call on the British Gas cover and let them sort it, unless I see the plumber bloke that parks in our street and he...

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

Yes, no sign of a second pump. About to try and bleed air at the valve.

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

Could it be possible that I have an airlock within the boiler itself?

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

None of the pipe is warm except the first section by the boiler. I was thinking an airlock would be unlikely as the pipe passes from downstairs boiler, straight through airing cupboard and into the loft. The motorised valve is within a few inches of this pipe so I would have thought any air...

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

How long should I expect to leave the lever in manual? I left it for a few minutes then let it return to auto and fired up the boiler but there was no change, so have switched it off and put lever back in manual...

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

OK, controls have been calling for Hot Water since I started the thread, and the lever was moving freely. I just turned the controls off, and now the lever has a motor holding it in 'Auto'. Pushing it part way to manual results in the motor pushing it back.

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

It might not have been working...we moved in 9 months ago, we stuck the heating on for 5 minutes and once I felt heat at the rads I turned it off. Not been used since as we've had a couple of rads temporarily removed since the summer. Will fire the thing up and see if the lever has tension...

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

I've just come back from taking another look at that :) So as it has a single pipe passing though I'm guessing I have a 2 port valve...is this possible as the sticky thread suggests I should have either a single 3 way or two 2 ways. I'm assuming if I move the lever to Manual I'll get hot...

No hot water after bleeding CH pump

Following on from yesterdays thread...http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=108402&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0...as you'll read I've successfully bled my CH pump and radiators now get nice 'n hot...thanks Hi-Spec. However I now don't have any hot water at my taps. The boiler will...

How do I bleed a CH pump?

Woohoo! Thanks...took some nerve undoing the smaller of the two big nuts (one was approx 50mm, smaller was around 30mm) but it worked, got quite a bit of air out and rads are now lukewarm, boiler is firing so hopefully they will get hot soon. Next time the system is cold I'll see if I can...

How do I bleed a CH pump?

So your saying its almost certainly an airlock in the pump? So whats the best way to solve this, close the two valves either side of the pump, remove the four bolts and remove pump, then crack the two valves slightly to bleed off the air? When I refit the pump this will still be full of air...

How do I bleed a CH pump?

The pipes for the upstairs rads drops down and under the ground floor floorboards with no connections in the airing cupboard or behind the boiler itself.

How do I bleed a CH pump?

No, the pipe leaving the pump (22mm) goes under the floor boards where it presumably connects to the radiator circuit. From the floorboards I've had up it looks like the entire rad circuit is 15mm pipe. (5 rads)
