Garden bench - need some advice to make it more rigid, and a legs question

I've had a garden bench like the following for a few years: https://www.diy.com/departments/simply-wood-churchill-3-seater-garden-bench/5060749291492_BQ.prd My problem is that it's become less rigid of late in the horizontal plane (so it moves side to side a bit too much) - I tightened the...

Shower pump making a noise whenever hot water is turned off after use

The shower in my bathroom hasn't been used for years but yesterday I checked it out to make sure it was still functional - it was and the shower pump in the airing seems okay (but noisy, as it always was). However, since that test I'm now often (but not always) finding that after using any hot...

    Paint matching

I want to repaint just a small part of my lounge but need to get the same colour to avoid having to do it all. Are there any kind of paint sample strips that I can obtain to match it up with? The current paint seems like it could be some shade of magnolia.

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

This isn't 'shopping' in the normal sense, it's frozen dog food (and I doubt if DHL will take back the boxes and gel packs. I can ask of course). Because of this I end up with about 36 gel packs every month .......... it's quite a recent thing though, the dog food supplier used to use their own...

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

My local tip is about a 40 minute drive from me. Putting the gel into the general waste is an option but there's a lot of them and due to the liquid these things are heavy when in any kind of quantity, the contents will also add a lot of bulk and there is a limit on how many black bags I can put...

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

If I was to put my current 'collection' of gel packs into my large chest freezer I would have more gel packs than food ........ ;)

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

That's a good question, I guess because of the gel there's is a danger of blocking up the soakaway?

Freezer gel packs - how do you dispose of yours?

While I can perfectly understand the use of frozen gel packs with delivered frozen goods, disposal of them is not necessarily easy. I have a septic tank which means that I can't just flush the contents of the packs down the drain and then put the plastic out with my recycling, so how do I deal...

    New gloss paint over old

I need to paint a few interior doors which have assorted chips in the old paint, the old gloss has been on the doors for a little over 20 years. Not sure how to go about this, do I: a) Sand the old gloss then paint on new gloss b) As 'a' but put an undercoat on first? c) Undercoat straight...

Water circulating pump - the large silver screw in the middle

Thanks all.. As the newer pump is a different make and model I'm assuming that the screw may be a different length, width and/or have a different thread pitch, however I can't take it out to check because I'll probably end up with water everywhere.

Water circulating pump - the large silver screw in the middle

I have a spare, old water circulating pump, a Grundfos 15-50, like this: https://www.anchorpumps.com/media/catalog/product/cache/adc97c95711116b76690f2d96fb29368/l/e/leoldshite_1.jpg About that silver screw in the middle, can it be obtained separately? It's missing from the old 'parts' pump.

Ballcock float valve in hot water header tank - noisy refill

It's not high pitched, it's just the noise of the water refilling. It's just far more noticeable than the old valve. Not a header tank? What's the name then please? Also, what's a part 2 valve?

Ballcock float valve in hot water header tank - noisy refill

Recently replaced the ballcock float valve in the hot water header tank in my attic (the old one was over 20 years old and a bit knackered) - I can't remember the exact model of the replacement but it was pretty similar in appearance to this...

Builder's wheelbarrow - who makes the best ones?

I currently have a 30 year old builder's wheelbarrow which looks pretty much like the following (different forks design though): https://www.wheelbarrows.co.uk/easiload-galvanised-wheelbarrow-85-ltr-150kg/ Mine is very rusted and generally just falling apart, even though it's been patched up...
