Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

Thanks for the replies. Have to go out now, not back 'till late so will look at things again tomorrow. I did turn the 7mm nut as you said but will check that it rises. Spent ages on the phone trying to find washers and seals for F/S with no luck. So don't want to dismantle if it's not that. Mike

Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

Hi Tony. I'm talking about the flow switch. Didn't think there is a diaphragm in that. Mike

Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

Just reading up - Vaillant says not to use any grease or jointing compound on assembly. Probably best anyway to use new seals. Are they still available or a common size? May as well get prepared before starting. Mike

Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

Done all that has been suggested. The spindle (flow switch) is not operating the H/W micro switch. When M/S pressed down manually H/W (only) works and boiler flames. Heating flow pipe remains cold, only warms up with CH only on. So am I right now in thinking it is the flow switch - either...

Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

Thanks gentlemen. Not sure what the 'piano switch' contacts are or where they are located - the three on the front of the boiler? Could you advise me? Problem may have existed for a while as I rarely use the hot taps to that boiler in isolation, i.e. hot water only. Will try adjusting...

Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

Sure I can hear some feint clicking turning tap on but tap not near enough to boiler to be sure where from and no plumber's mate. With preheat switch on and CH off still no HW. Is it worth taking water section apart anyway? Cant remember if I need to drain boiler for this, would assume...

Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

After reading post, completely removed bleed valve on MH/ex and then prodded with a bit of thin welding rod - the water really squirted out, soaking me and the scullery. Repeated with DH/ex - same thing. There's definitely water there!!! Unfortunately boiler still doesn't fire when hot tap...

Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

Hi The 831 Bunny, good to hear from you. I was hoping you or Bunnyman would get back as you gave me so much help in the past when I replaced the flowswitch/divertor on the other boiler (big old House) Reading about 1 bar - there seems to be plenty of pressure as the 10th rad upstairs (furthest...

Vaillant VCW 20/1 T3W No hot water

No hot water with CH turned off. Only noticed this the other day after a drain down to replace rad valve and some piping. Refilled/bled system all seemed to be fine HW and CH with switch set to CH. Finally decided to bleed main heat exchanger - no air or water came out. Checked bleed on...

Can I get away with just depresurisig the system?

Again, many thanks for info and the link. It's the small details that make the job. Mike

Can I get away with just depresurisig the system?

That's great. Thanks very much. I can go ahead with some confidence now. Just a thought, how many winds of PTFE are generally used. I was reading somewhere that one guy used 10 to 15. It surprised me as I generally use about three plus a bit of silicone grease on threads. And, do you wrap...

Can I get away with just depresurisig the system?

Old big house with two combi boilers - one for upstairs, one for downstairs. The system for downstairs has one rad in the bathroom upstairs. So highest point on the circuit. I had to fit a 2 new rads downstairs and whilst the system was drained decided to replace the one in the bathroom...

LED lighting circuits, dimmers and drivers advice

Thanks again. Sorry if I did not make myself clear. The electrician, who will do the work, said it would be ok for me to fit the patress and switch boxes, do the chasing and put in some of the cable runs following the prescribed safe zones. He would then check this work, install the lighting...

LED lighting circuits, dimmers and drivers advice

Did contact the council re intended work and building regs (ceiling and electrics). As long as the electrician is Part P registered, issues me with a certificate and registers the work with his governing body when completed, building approval not required. I will end up with two certificates...

LED lighting circuits, dimmers and drivers advice

Again, thank you for the information. I think it must be difficult to have a vapour barrier that remains intact if downlights are fitted. Presumably the lamp units that come with bulb fitted are a sealed unit that prevents the vapour getting past. Maybe spotlights/flourescent dome ceiling...

I don't understand what you mean by barrier layer. Many kitchens and bathrooms have lights recessed into the ceiling.

LED lighting circuits, dimmers and drivers advice

The more I read, look and ponder the more ideas I have. Some of them quite fanciful. Fortunately there is no rush to get it finished. I have three 6 x 4 windows with muslin type roller blinds that would make great projection screens. Now that could really create some mood lighting ...

LED lighting circuits, dimmers and drivers advice

WOW, that's great. And thanks for all the pictures and links. It will take me a while to go through them all and I'm presently in the middle of tiling. Not heard of magnetic induction lamps and dielectric barrier discharge but will enjoy looking into them. Cold cathode takes me back to my...

Yes, already have under cabinet lighting that I will replace at some time with LED. Thanks for the contribution. Onwards and upwards! Mike

LED lighting circuits, dimmers and drivers advice

Thanks again SimonH2. I'm now seriously considering putting the old fluorescents back up. Given that the area is 26sq metres with a ceiling height of 3.25 metres do you have any thoughts as to the number of lights, output, wattage and beam angle? Doing some re-tiling at the moment and...
