Incorrect installation by British Gas - What to do?

The pressure was rising up from 1.1 (cold) to 3 bar (boiler working) and PR pipe outside was collecting water every day (anything from 150 to 600 ml). The guy said if PR was connected the pressure would only rise by 0.5 bar or so, certainly not to 3 bar as at 3 bar PRV is made to pass. sorry...

Incorrect installation by British Gas - What to do?

I am sure. He took the condensate box out and he specifically said that EV is not connected. He showed me an orange cap on top of EV and there was like ~inch long flexible pipe coming out of EV and not connected anywhere. He took a pic and called his boss and they qualified this as incorrect...

Incorrect installation by British Gas - What to do?

The engineer showed me that that plastic pipe from EV was suspended (not connected anywhere). In terms of charge - engineer who came a few days ago said EV pressure was low, so he topped it up to 1 bar.

Incorrect installation by British Gas - What to do?

Dear forum members, We have Worcester 28i junior boiler installed by British Gas (BG) 20 month ago and have been facing a leakage problem for the last few weeks (see this thread), suspecting that pressure relief valve (PRV) is faulty , and today when a gas engineer from our insurance company...

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

Hello guys, Hope you had a nice weekend. Unfortunately none of what the engineer did yesterday (cleaning the PRV, re-pressurising the expansion vessel (EV) - please see post #33) helped - the pressure still drops from 1.2 to 0.6 bar after ~4 hours of boiler operation. However, the pressure...

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

No I didn't. This was my 2nd thought after her left anyway :-D I've downloaded the manual for the boiler, so will study how this works ;-)

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

quick update: we called a gas engineer today through our insurance, he came and did the following: 1. cleaned up the PRV valve saying there was dirt underneath the rubber washer which might have been the reason for it leaking. 2. Found the pressure within expansion vessel (EV) was too low and...

Good idea, thanks. Will do accordingly.

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

Quick update. Water leakage through the PR pipe is ~0.2 liters/24 hours . To refill boiler pressure from 0.8 to 1.5 bar takes 10 sec, and on my estimate takes less than 1l of water, so 0.2l/day is not negligible and hence PRV valve must be faulty. The plan of action: 1. Find GRI and get an...

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

Here are the pictures: 1. Boiler - white pipe at the top connects through the wall to the wide plastic pipe (flue) outside. 2. The flue - front view from outside. Light seen at the center is the light passing through the white pipe from image 1 and the hole in the wall. 3. The relief copper pipe...

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

I've remembered - the wide plastic pipe is the flue. Is condensate drain and flue the same thing? It is not plumbed anywhere, just open to air. The bent copper pipe (like a hook - coming out of and facing the outside wall) must be the relief pipe. There is ~ 100ml of water in the bag attached to...

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

I think I figured it out - there are two pipes coming outside - wide plastic one (~ 3 inch in diameter) and narrow copper pipe (~1/2 in) bent towards the wall. So I guess the wide plastic is what you called "relief for the cylinder" and the narrow copper one is relief for the filling loop...

How do I check this?? What is primary circuit? filling loop? cylinder? This is Chinese to me, please explain.

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

I've just checked - when the boiler is working, a wet hot steam comes out constantly from the pressure relief pipe outside at a rate that my hand gets wet in 5-10 sec. At such a vapor flow is it safe for the boiler to put a plastic bag around the relief pipe when the boiler is working??

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

I assume the test kit is to compare alkalinity between mains water and that in CH system. Is it to be done only before/after injecting inhibitor or in-between the injections too? How often?

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

House consists of 2 parts – old part and extension. Old part has ground base with joists and ~0.5-0.6 m underneath, so should be sufficient to crawl. Extension has concrete base, and 2 out of 7 rads total. It’s a bungalow so all rads are downstairs. That’s an interesting option, Tony. I...

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

Will 0.5 liter be enough for 6 radiators? Do I need to drain water from all the radiators or just close one of them, add the inhibitor thru the venting port? Any precautions while doing this? Thank you

Central heating system leakage - need advice please

Is it possible to diy refill the corrosion inhibitor? Sorry, I still didn't get an answer on whether it's safe to keep the plastic key in while boiler is working? And if yes, shall the white arrow on the key be aligned with open padlock or closed one? Here is the Worcester video on refilling...
