CU change what is the exact standing now under the 17th

I'm afraid you are either confused or being deliberately obtuse and obdurate. I wonder which?

CU change what is the exact standing now under the 17th

My reasoning is included in the bit you've quoted. I'm sorry if it confuses you.

CU change what is the exact standing now under the 17th

Here's my two pennies worth...which might be controversial. It is the arrangement of circuits that complies or doesn't comply with the 17th. Dual RCD boards can facilitate this compliance, but it's true that there is no such thing as a 17th Edition CU (as has been mentioned). For a board...

Instead of hiring the same old Robin, why not hire a few others and see what suits you best?

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

Aye, but what about the external parallel paths???

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

Yes but did you have very large lump of lead to take advantage of -albeit temporarily - plus a genuine earth rod. Parallel paths affect Zs on TT, TNS and TNCS. As I said before, there are some who reckon Zs should be measured with bonding disconnected - the IET is not one of them.

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

I think some of the latecomers should read the OP and carry on from there. Look at the before photos, read what action the OP took and what action will be taken in a few weeks. I predicted a reading of 0.1 to 0.3ohms for the lump of lead. Not a guess, I've seen it so so so many times before...

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

If you're going to use the parallel paths argument, please be so kind as to define ALL the paths and the contribution they make to the earth fault loop impedance. Then perhaps we can start eliminating them one at time to determine their exact influence. By your reckoning, TT should be banned...

Does part P go far enough?

The same can be said of doctors, lawyers, architects, accountants, librarians, politicians...the list could go on. I guess the difference is that the above wasters have post nominals after their names which justifies their ignorance. Their insistence on using them being directly proportional...

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

Not if it's one of the 3 in 100 that will fail. And with Zs readings of 0.3ohms...that's better than many TN-S installations. I assume you've assumed that the customer can swallow all the cost. Why should the customer pay for an electrician's whimsical appeasement of his conscience and...

Messy wiring - Legal issues with selling the house

With the rapid turnover of housing stock over the last 15 years and the number of people (fancying themselves as developers and competent DIYers) leaving death traps and structural/other chaos hiden under the carpets and wallpaper, there is an argument that the Goverment has a duty of care to...

Does part P go far enough?

Glad to hear BC have done their bit. Few things are rocket science - even rocket science. Many domestic electrical jobs are not too hard - single phase. Add in 3-phase, workshops etc. and it ramps up. People defend themselves in court, diagnose their ailments, in fact do all sorts of...

    Living room on seperate ring

If you can re-wire a living room in an hour, you can come and work for me anyday. It's up to you if you want to do it. If you want to put it on its own circuit, a 20A radial would more than suffice. And be quicker and save cable. All your AV equipment together doesn't draw very much - you...

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

But the OPs property is TT. This is how TT works. We have no idea what the exact mass of earth path is. Some of it maybe via next door's bonding. Some of it may be via a hundred or a thousand tiny parallel paths. But in any case, it's very unlikely that the major reason for a low impedance earth...
