    EICs

BAS, this is where you disclose yourself as an armchair, home alone, DIY sparky. Certainly someone who has never had to sign as Inspector on a professional footing. Have you actually read the Schedule of Inspections??? Now, I've never said what you are saying doesn't happen. But should...

Does part P go far enough?

No...electricians use the expensive test equipment becuase it looks good and makes them feel better. Has nothing at all to do with the BS7671. No insulation resistance test mentioned. No RCD test mentioned. No mention of polarity...yep..you're £40 socket tester sounds like it wil do the job...

    Consumer unit height

As far as I am aware, unless a dwelling is specifically designed for disabled people, there is no need for strict compliance...

Does part P go far enough?

Actualy BAS, with all the DIY work you've done at your home, all the money you've spent on testers, surely it would have been more cost effective for you to join a scheme rather than pay the notification fee each time. All seems like an huge expense otherwise. It's not as if you use any of it at...

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

Gary, it will contribute. By how much - who knows? Any conductive material could form part of the TT earth path to the supply. The lump of lead in the garden will provide an excellent connection to the general mass of earth. If we are arguing about the effect of bonding on Zs, then...

Does part P go far enough?

Let's explode some myths about Part P. How many certificates were issued for any type of work before Part P? How many installations were tested before Part P? How many traceable jobs were there before Part P? How many job came with 6-year warranties before Part P? How many...

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

Gary, it's not next door I'm talking about, it's the earth connection to next door. Any parallel paths which may include next door are via the general mass of earth as the OP's property is currently TT.

    RCBO board.

RCBOs aren't all they are cracked up to be are they? SP not much good for TT anyhow.

    Neon Screwdriver

Thought you'd done all the jobs around the house BAS? :D Don't tell me you're thinking about becoming professional electrician for the first time? It's a bad part of the economic cycle you know? One thing, I bet you could sell tickets to your on site assessment.

    Earthing and supply in Hartlepool

Well, you seem to suggest that the low Zs is as a result of next door's bonding connected via the general mass of earth. It is a TT installation remember? 100ma might not fully discrimminate? It won't discriminate at all. Weighing up the risks? Too high impedance...where from? Are you...

    Neon Screwdriver

The problem with some GS38 testers is that sometimes it's very difficult/hazardous to get 2mm probes to make a good contact. 4mm is better and is still GS38 compliant. And sometimes even 4mm isn't quite sufficient - but it has to do.

Does part P go far enough?

That's not how the real world works BAS. Just ask the Government... :D

Does part P go far enough?

BAS, I asked more than just if one owned the equipment :) :) :)

    Sockets Ring Wiring

Then again, it might not be... Let's not get side-tracked into the world of imaginary, narrowly defined examples which serve only to prove the point of the imaginary, narrowly defined examples.

    EICs

The constructor would simply roll out BAS's excuse...'to the best of my knowledge'...because he would say that the Inspector and Tester who is more qualified with 2391 etc. inspected his work. The assertion in your argument BAS is that the Inspector is absolved of all errors, mistakes...

Does part P go far enough?

Hands up all those home DIYers that have all of the test equipment to satisfy the requirements of BS7671, EWR1989 etc. In addition, that have the training, knowledge and experience to use such equipment? Inaddition, they have (or have access to) the relevant publications. How many? The...

    Sockets Ring Wiring

You failed to mention whether or not he has asked his 'Organisation'. Or is he supposed to lie to them? Keep them in the dark? Also, why do you assume that one approach is automatically cheaper than the other, or inferior then the other?

    EICs

You're making the point that you can, BAS. So, please, give us some examples for discussion. Don't try and body swerve. Now, if you can't, don't reply and that will be that :) Edit: and please stop shouting.

one cable / one shower ?

Your MK consumer is rated for the typical single phase domestic supply - 100A. It is a maximum rating without an allowance for diversity. Two showers is pushing it and I think many would not recommend even that without making a careful assessment of maximum demand, likely demand and the...
