Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Thank you, I haven't done it yet and that is useful advice.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

You are right, it does look way worse with all the cables. You made me laugh about the curves and straight lines.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

This looks easy, is it really as simple as that? I missed this diagram before.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Hey spark, it's okay. I have loads of extra length on the right side of the photo. Thanks for making sure that was clear.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Thanks for explaining, that sounds straight forward. I always wondered how they were used like that.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

I do, I have this one...

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

I'm thinking the cables that come through the same holes will correlate so the ones coming in from the right are from the ring?

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

I want to keep all the spur cabling in the first backbox but not connect it all to one or both sockets.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Oh damn, there are four cables! It's hard to spot the fourth cable as there is no outer plastic on it.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Just to confirm, if I am looping, it won't be wired like this will it? This to me implies two spurs (I am not very good at reading wiring diagrams).

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

That's great, when I figure out exactly what I am doing I'll remove the old backbox and add green and yellow sleeving.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

I've just looked at the existing cables again. Does anyone else agree that the odd cable out (therefore likely a spur) is the cable with a brass coloured earth because the other two cables have matching coloured earths?

For illustrative purposes. The chase is 4cm.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Okay, I'll err on the side of caution and assume the worst. This is progress so far.

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Once I figure out the other cables, isnt that wiring already considered a spur so I need to keep it in the circuit?
  16. TheJay

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Am I right in thinking I am creating a loop and will one chase fit both cable lengths/is that acceptable?
  17. TheJay

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

That's a good idea to give me as much space as possible, how deep?
  18. TheJay

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

The wall is solid brick, I think I have everything ready for the chase and just need confirmation of the facts before I get started. I'll then get it all fitted before connecting to the mains

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

So I have a few questions. I presume I should be using 2.5mm twin and earth, that the cables I install in the wall for the extension to the second socket should create a loop to and from (two cables in and out) the new socket (rather than a spur) and is there anything I should know about the...

Took double socket off wall and discovered 3x cables

Thanks for all your replies. I really don't want a converter box that sticks out of the wall and was planning on there being a gap of about three feet in between sockets. If the screw holes are a different size then I can either use SteelStik and tap or change the back box. I'm pretty handy...
