Yes it'll unscrew from the back, and you need into the back for the wiring anyway.

    Yale on UPVC door

The single locks which are fitted to upvc doors are usually multipoint locks, and they work by a 'gearbox'. You can get different types of gearbox/locks - the usual type allows you to open the door from both sides when the door is unlocked, and from neither side when locked. However, another...

    Double glazing failed

You can replace the glazing units. There are online places where you can get a price, or get a glazier to order them in, or get a glazier to supply and fit them. I'd guess somewhere between £20-40 per unit supply only. Edit...Notch7's pricing is probably closer than mine, I pad about £50 for...

    Rover 75

A Merc 190 would make a good reliable semi classic which wouldn't fall to bits too much.

    Dipped doors...an idiots guide!

Mine came back damp/wet. I hung them, let them dry out, sanded them and applied a brush-on wax coating. It gave a nice sheen without being too shiny or going dark. Mine weren't pine tho, they were some type of harder wood but I can't remember what.

Brake pad ends sticking in calipers

I've done exactly that - cleaned up, wire brushed and filed every touching component, except I used copper grease. Would ceramic grease be a better bet?

Brake pad ends sticking in calipers

The pads, calipers and discs all genuine Mazda. The calipers are quite heavy so I wouldn't say they're aluminium, but they may well be. A wire brush took most of the crap off this time - last time it was ages with a file and emery cloth.

Brake pad ends sticking in calipers

No it wasn't Machargs/Arnold Clark in South Street, it was SDM in Falkirk, who are so incompetent they can't blow up tyres properly.

Brake pad ends sticking in calipers

Thanks mate. Today I've done as you say, but I did the same 6 months ago (except I didn't remove the paint then). They weren't sticking, a fairly gentle squeeze with thumb and forefinger pushes the pads in to sandwich the disc. All the replacements were genuine Mazda btw. I've never had this...

Brake pad ends sticking in calipers

Hi, Having troubles with long brake pedal travel and poor handbrake feel on our 3.5 years old Mazda 3. It's done 23k miles, has been owned by us since new, and is serviced annually by Mazda. On it's second service I asked Mazda to check the brakes and, of course, the answer was "it's fine...

    How to repair this hinge?

In pic 2 you can see 2 nail holes. These fix the 'facing' on, and it needs pryed off to access the screws.

    How to repair this hinge?

The piece of wood with the C-shape cut-out for the hinge is almost definitely fixed over the top of the hinge screws. Insert a flat chisel or similar between that piece of wood and the next (thinner) piece and pry it off. Also, the reason the hinge has broken is probably because it hits the...

Can I upgrade only the thermostat from Hive 1 to Hive 2

Hi, I have the older version of Hive, with the rectangular white thermostat. Is it possible to upgrade only the thermostat to the newer more modern shiny square silver version? I think the hub and receiver should be compatible but not sure. Also, mine is the type which controls the DHW and...

    Ideal Classic Boiler Problems

I have a 19-20 years old Ideal Classic boiler which works perfectly. Each year the Scottish Gas guys who service it say the same "parts are getting scarce" line. However, as you say, the parts seem to only be scarce from the suppliers they use, not necessarily scarce from anywhere else. Also...

Can't remove beading from UPVC window

That beading looks the same as mine. Check out this thread I created when I had similar problems - there are pics there with the beading removed. My technique for removing was to use this window bead removing tool (as suggested by Notch7 on that thread), starting at the middle of the long run...
