Is surround sound worth it in a small room?

Won't that be like sitting in the front row of the cinema, ie you'll need to move your head around to watch it rather than just your eyes?

    Is a powerflush required?

Yes you're quite right. If we saved that money we could go out for a bar lunch every few months. I understand the point about paying over the odds for the flush, and paying for an ongoing contract. However, what would it cost, for example, to call a plumber out to diagnose, say, a faulty...

    Is a powerflush required?

I'm not sure why you say it's a rip off. Sure, their price is about double what a local plumber would charge, but includes everything needed to make the system work properly. There are plenty horror stories around regarding people forking out fortunes to local plumbers without actually getting...

    Condensation issue in roof

We had a job a few years ago where there were damp patches on the ceiling. There was polythene above the plasterboard as per yours. The home owners loved the heating up really hot. The damp patches corresponded to areas where the insulation had been peeled back or removed, the cure was to put...

    Is a powerflush required?

We paid an extortionate price for a powerflush from Scottish Gas, including fitting the magnetic filter. Our reasons were that our system was bad with really black water, a valve was completely stuck by crud, most rads were hardly heating up, and a couple not working at all. We thought...

    Is a powerflush required?

Of our 7 or 8 annual services, about half have drained a small amount of water from a drain point rad valve, and every one since having a magnetic filter fitted have drained the filter.

Broken front spring or seized top mount on Ford Focus?

Hi, I have a serious clunk from the n/s/f of a 2006 Ford Focus when turning the steering. Are these prone to top strut mount bushes seizing up etc? The car only gets taken out its warm dry garage every couple/few months when I (choose a dry day and) take it for a short spin to make sure it's...

Honeywell Galaxy Dimension 48 - Abort Time

Not sure about your particular system but on my Galaxy G2-12 you can set each zone differently for part set/night set/full set. The first pir which catches us after entering the alarmed area is set to entry, thus starting the countdown timer.

    Novice decommissioning Honeywell alarm

I'm not an alarm expert, but the general gist is that the sounder is 'held off' by being supplied with 12 volts constantly. This power is supplied via the mains, until the mains is cut or disconnected, in which case the panel battery takes over and continues to supply the hold off wire. If the...

    Novice decommissioning Honeywell alarm

In engineer mode the tampers should be disabled, so you could remove the cover from your sounder and have a look. FWIW the battery in mine was easily removed, but it looks nothing like any of the three boxes in your pic. The top one looks similar to my internal speaker/horn tho.

    Galaxy 16+ wiring

If it's like the Galaxy 2-12 then there's a setting which makes the keypad screen go blank when set. Thus if you see the banner it's unset, if you seen nothing it's set. Not a good idea to do this if a burglar could see the screen and figure out it's unset tho.

    Electric Shower turning itself on

Do you mean it turns fully on, or that a few seconds of drips come from it randomly? We're on our second one of these showers (the pcb got damp in the first one) and both have done the random drips thing but never full flow. The isolator on ours is always off when not in use tho.

Help with Drafty Windows - Replacement reinforcement of seals

I'm sure you'll get better replies from the professionals on here, but these type of hinges have a little plastic triangle fitted at the bottom of the hinge side (you can see it in your last pic), and a corresponding wedge on the window side. These triangles cause the window to be pulled back...
