    New trv advice please

Well all the rads work fine now so if there was any sediment it would surely be sitting somewhere wouldn't it ? When we had the boiler installed it was pumped through with a high velocity flush for quite some time which cleaned out a lot of sediment. What I can't understand at the moment is...

    New trv advice please

At what point did I complain of high heating bills ? I said they were reasonable compared to the average. The pump is fine and there was no sludge in the system when it was drained. Clean as a whistle. We had the Heatline 24 installed just over 2 years ago (by another engineer) and had it...

    New trv advice please

I asked him to fit the TRVs. He also set all the rads at 5 but did say to play around with them until happy. he also set the in flow smaller tps he fitted with the TRVs. We had a problem with the front room rad (see other post) getting cooler and cooler over time. I turned off all the other rads...

    New trv advice please

But if I have to have the TRV set to high in the room with the stat, I will have wasted money on that TRV as it becomes redundant. More money spent on a stat as well as having it fitted. Counter productive against saving on heating bills surely ? Again, TRVs do the same job as a stat BUT with...

    New trv advice please

No point getting a thermostat fitted. You are not supposed to have one in a room with a trv anyway. The only room we have not got a trv is the bathroom. He did stay until the rads all heated up when fitted. Some people make balancing out to be a dark art. He just told me to play around with them...

    New trv advice please

A room thermostat controls just one room. TRVs control individual rooms. The room thermostat will only sense the one rooms temp. If a TRV fails you just replace it. Even I can do that. My central heating is set to go on and off in intervals and running it like that is cheaper for us. With added...

    New trv advice please

Yes but if I only have the boiler coming on at intervals that should be better. Plenty of energy saving tips always state the use of TVRs. They have to be fitted by law when a heating system is installed so they must be doing something to save money.

    New trv advice please

I have just had new TRVs fitted. Now as I am not used to using them, I would like to get the best out of them along with my combi boiler. Up to now I have been having the boiler set at economy (middle setting) and having it come on and off at long-ish intervals through the evening when we are...

    Radiators cold at the bottom.

The front room rad pipe was taken off and the water that came out was clear so it can't be sludge. besides, it can get hot sometimes.

    Radiators cold at the bottom.

Again, tweaked rads to get the front room working and a few days later it has gone cold. Why do the goalposts keep shifting ?

    Radiators cold at the bottom.

Had a small rad fitted in kitchen. Now the front room rad is cold. Have to turn the living (middle) room rad right down to almost off before a little heat comes out of it. Having Thermostats fitted next week so hopefully it will be addressed. I manage to get the cold rad working by turning...

    Paint has changed to lighter

We painted our room a couple of years ago and I saved the tin as it was still mostly full. It was kept sealed in the loft. When I touched up parts of the wall that had marks I found to my horror (after stirring tin) that all the touched up parts look paler in comparison. I waited a few days to...

    Scrapping Fridge Freezer

I have replaced a 14 year Electrolux fridge freezer as it only seemed to reach at best -10, but mainly stayed at -5 in the freezer the last couple of years due to our very cold kitchen in bad winters. We now have a radiator installed. Also, it was uneconomical to run despite having a savaplug on...

New fridge freezer making hissing sound

Just put a new Indiset fridge freezer in the kitchen and upon turning it on there seems to be some noise coming from the rear like a kind of air hissing. The fridge and freezer seem to be working fine but this Noise wasn't familiar with my old Electrolux. I also noticed when unwrapping it that...

    Freezer only going to -5

well it's pretty much the same size as the one we have. There is only 2 of us. Which always tends to veer on the side of the people who have money to spend like that.

    Freezer only going to -5

I was looking at paying not much more than £200. This seems a good deal ? http://www.appliancesonline.co.uk/Advice/Fridge-Freezers/Top-Tens/Top-Five-55cm-Fridge-Freezers

    Freezer only going to -5

We have had this electrolux fridge freezer for over 14 years and of the last couple of years the freezer has been unstable. It gets defrosted when it need (not self defrost) but the freezer never seems to get below -10. t the moment it is -5 but the kitchen ambiance is just over 10 oC. The...
